A few nights ago I took a bunch of screenshots for my sister since she's working on a project, I was just going though them to get them organized, however I spotted something that might interest everybody... (she also was blown away too)
I spotted a picture frame that looks to be a couple in the black and white photo... it's seems to be a woman in a dress and a man in a coat and hat. I'm thinking it might be Penny's parents? or just her mom with Gadget? or maybe Gadget's parents? (or maybe Gadget with his former significant other?) or Etc?... anyways, a picture is worth a thousand words... lol!
the screenshot is the the episode "So it is written" and I tried to resized it without being blurry.
so, what do you guys think?

Girl, you are a true screenshoter detective. You are probably by far the one who caught up with many screenshots with such small details from the show that I even never noticed them. Congrats on that! Hmmmm… an old black and white photo… Well, the Gadgetinis series mentioned that Gadget's parents met in 1957 (funny though it's the same year my father was born ), so Gadget was probably born 9 months after or if he's the young sibling then probably way later. I remember when writing my fanfics "Memories of an Inspector", "Broken Heart" and "The Beginning" I made my own calculations just so I wouldn't disrespect the characters ages, and even mention that Penny was born probably the same year the series were being developed, 1983, and if I'm not mistaken the photos on that time were already in color. However, when it comes to the year when Penny's parents met for the first time I presume it was around 1972, when Gadget was 15 years old, but I can't be sure if in that time the photos were already in color or if they were still black and white. I could go that they could be Penny's parents, but I'm not picturing Penny's father wearing an hat and a trench coat at least in my interpretation (and even when I read the fanfiction "Good Heart" I didn't picture him wearing those either). And since the photo looks really old I would go that they are Gadget's parents.

I do agree that is Gadget's parents only because of the 'age' of the photo. it kinda reminds me of the last episode "gadget and the red rose" and how everything was in black and white in the flashback... and they did mentioned Gadget age, so the photo was taking sometime in the early to late 1930's. (if you are going by 1983-1985 date) which is accrete because around that time because was the great depression (and gangsters from the season finale).... but also it was the way they dressed back in that day too, especially in the city.
however, making black and white photos still existed in the 1980's, some people developed their own. my grandfather did it and we had a lot of family photos that were black and white dated in the early 1980's.
However, I know the Gadgettinies did added gadget's parents into the series, but the date setting always threw me off with the original source.
Btw, thanks! my sister and I used to do this A LOT with a VCR which was hooked up to my dad's computer where I can create screenshots before youtube existed. I always like to go by detail to detail on what's on the screen. my poor recorded tapes became very warn after meeting the pause button so many times. lol!

Oh, I didn't remember that from the original. Just rewatched the episode now just to refresh my memory and the agent does indeed mention he hasn't used the Red Rose for 50 year's. But sincerely I don't see Gadget to be 50 during the original series, although some fans gave theory that because he became a cyborg his body didn't aged older to what it should (that could be another good clue why Gadget is dumb, since old people tend to think slower than usual). Still I would stick with the age the Gadgetinis series gave to him and not with the original. I don't know, I just don't see Gadget that old. But thanks for sharing me a little about history from that time, it was interesting to learn a little about it. As for photo technology I didn't know that as well (boy, I really suck when it comes to History subjects ). I understand. It's your own opinion and I respect it. I know the feel!

I know the feel! oh yes indeed, I never visioned Gadget that old ether, I'm always thinking that he's around 45 age. but like you said, cyborgs have a slow rate of ageing. (I think this topic is on this forum somewhere) however, If Spuds forgot where he put the potato gun, that means he might be going senile. lol! so if you think about it, Gadget might've been a little bit younger than 50... but, just my theory.
but anyways, but on topic... here's another theory that you may like, if Gadget was born in the 1950's according to the Gadgettinies, that picture must've been taken before he was born. maybe his parent's honeymoon photo.

It's funny 'cause I actually see him as a 30-35 years old guy and not much older than that. Not to mention it would be kind of bizarre of Penny, who according to the artbook she's 10 (and I thought she was probably 8 ), being taking care by a 50 years old man unless Gadget is actually an uncle grandpa but doesn't like to be called grandpa , but that just me, but this bizarreness of mine could be also an idea for the other theory (I think there's a topic about it if I'm not wrong) that Penny could've been adopted. I don't know, I'm not seeing Penny's mother giving birth to her child with 45-50 years unless there might be a good reason. I know this is a little off topic, but I remember actually talking with my mother about the subject of babies birth and I remember she said that most people get their healthy babies around 25-30 while older people around that age mostly get their babies with some spectrums and/or diseases (like for example Down Syndrome). I'm not quite sure if it only happens in Portugal or if it also happens worldwide as well, and yes, I know with younger mother that could also happen although it's very rare. But since Penny is healthy in the series… it kind of makes me wonder. Oh yes, that's a great theory!

But since Penny is healthy in the series… it kind of makes me wonder. Oh yes, that's a great theory! you know, that is a big possibility about Gadget's age is between the ages of 30 to 35. (around my age) he just has a voice of an older person. I actually worked with people that were around my age that had a voice that sounded older than their age, so that's something to think about. but also he might've been around that age before the accident that turned him into a cyborg. maybe that's one of the reasons why he doesn't have any strands of gray in his black hair. lol!
you know, you are right about not seeing penny's mom having her later on in life, even though, it's very common... but like you said, it's a risk. but I do know a couple of mothers who are a lot older than I am and were very blessed to have healthy babies in their late 30's; but they did go though a lot to make sure the baby is healthy to full term. However, I think Penny's mom might've been in her early to mid 30's when she had her... but again, there might be more theories about that. as for Penny, I'm always thinking that she had to be very young when she lost her both of her parents, and on the fact that Gadget might've been the older brother of her mom (or father)... but not much older. but also the way she is very close to Gadget and look to him as a father figure. maybe because he was around the same age as her biological father.
for awhile I always did have that theory that she was adopted only because they both don't look and act related. and I do have a strong headcanon about it, but there are other theories too about that issue.
and as for the picture on their bookshelf, it really can be anything! while I was working on taking the screenshots of their living room, I must've went though about over 25 to 30 episodes just to look to see what was on the shelves. however, the books, trophies and pictures were always moved around, but in very neat placements. (I have a headcanon that Gadget has 'some sort' of OCD because the house is always spotless and always telling Penny to pick up her toys) but this picture frame with the couple was the only one I saw that caught my eye. it's a shame it didn't appeared on other episodes so we can see a clearer picture.

Indeed, who knows. I agree. Funny though when fans talked about that subject as well the first thing that came to my mind was the Disney movie "The Rescuers", which had an orphan girl named Penny who gets adopted at the end of the movie. Oh yes, I've noticed that as well while watching the episodes. Because some of them has a different artstyle most of the time the backgrounds of Gadget's house have some objects that aren't exactly the same from the previous episode. However, when it comes with the episodes with the artstyle shown in the screenshot most of the time the objects seemed a little out of place, especially on the living room shelve behind the sofa. I think the background artist were just drawing the stuff randomly, that could probably explain why the changes.

As Polar said, you are a screenshot detective Butterfly. The details you notice are really something. I'm siding with the grandparents theory for this. As for fan fictions and headcanon. I automatically think about my fan fiction first but there it would only loosely fit the grandparents idea I think ( I'll explain better if prompted ). In regards to when did color photos replace back & white photos. I remember when seeing old photos of my mom growing up, along with all my aunts, and grandparents. Their photos stick to black & white only through the 50's to the dawn of the 60's. After that is switches to very faded color photos into the 70's and starting to look more normal color by the 80's ( family albums ). Black & white photos are still done today but for being mainly art ones. Not really everyday type shots commonly.

Yes, it's likely grandparents but because of my writing focus now for over a month. While I won't link the photo to the family with this. What if the photo was of much older relatives? Sorry, that's what happens when you work on a story set in the 1890's and try to flesh it out well. Also in case people think I'm doing a certain something nearly expected with the story. No one from present times has an appearing ancestor in that story. Floyd in the Iron and Steel-verse doesn't count to that.
