According to the writers of the show he slipped down some stairs because of a banana peel while chasing some mad agents.
I feel the back story in the movie to be more interesting.
There are some comic books but I doubt they explain it.

Yeah, that is essentially what I've read about it. Even though that film was a dud, an explosion does make for a better explanation.

Agreed because the stairs thing doesn't sound as believable.
The movie was given a C. Even if the movie was given a C, I love the comedy that it brings. Not only that I felt that Penny wasn't given enough screen time.

Eh, the banana peel explanation is is kinda lame. I like for his true origins being a mystery and left open to imagination.

If a person survives an explosion man are they even lucky to be alive.

I also read about that too. But I think it works out by this two ways: One: The way how he get's the gadgets from the Disney movie. It makes more sense. Two: That the real Gadget it's actually Dr. Claw after the exploding accident. People think he's dead and Penny decides to do a replica robot of her uncle. When the real Gadget gets conscience and realizes what happened he gets upset and angry and decides to revenge himself by creating the MAD operation and starting to treat himself has Dr. Claw. This is according to that theory that watchers/fans did about the series, which also makes a little sense.

Now I'm confused. Are you saying that it's the Gadget it's Claw or the banana split that doesn't make sense? Sorry, I just lost there. If it's that Gadget Claw theory that I just mentioned, well at first I thought it also didn't make sense because Gadget and Claw are not exactly the same, but after watching the action figure and that Ipad game images of Claw's face I thought that in same way it might make a little since because even the face doesn't look equal to Gadget's face the air is almost approaching to the Gadget's hair, even that the colors are different. I'm also saying this because I'm doing an commission fanart for a friend of mine where envolves Gadget and I drawn Dr. Claw's face and I actually remembered that theory from the internet.

The Dr Claw theory is the most lame theory out there

The Dr Claw theory is the most lame theory out there Yes, I also thought the same thing when I first saw the video on youtube about that, since the theory was created by the watchers/fans of the series. When I gave my opinion about the Gadget origins I didn't say that the theory might be correct, I just said that it might make a little sense, also because of the fact of the why Dr. Claw wants to eliminate Gadget so bad.

My fave version of the origin is the one from the movie. As for the banana peel one it would have to of been a lot of stairs maybe even a couple stories.

Yeah, even that I'm not a big appreciator of the Disney movie as I did before the origins of Gadget from the movie made a lot more of sense. For the banana peel, that Gadget fall a lot of stairs it's also a good coincidence. It's actually sad the creators didn't create an episode just for Gadget origins.
