Okay so we can easily guess that version of Gadget lives in Ohio because his license plate on the gadget mobile is an older version of the Ohio License plate. This no doubt confirms that the fictional city of riverton is in Ohio.
As for the mention of Kansas by his co worker this no doubt implies that version of gadget had lived in Kansas before moving to Ohio.
I am going to tell you some stuff from the book as well.
To put together facts about the movie time line I will use the book for answers as well.
Also another thing we learn from the book is that Brenda and her father had been working on the Gadget Project for the past 10 years.
It was stated in the book that the Gadget Project had over 30,000 individual parts.

30,000. Yikes, that's even more than his cartoon counterpart.

However that would back fire much to the annoyance of his co workers. XD there is mention of a place known as ogalaluga. It must of been a place in kansas. another mentioned co worker is some guy named fred.

Another left out scene is when Penny had pinched brain. She did that so Brenda would think it was John trying to speak while bandaged up.
