Season 1:
"Amusement Park"-A boring episode with a climax that makes less sense the more you think about it. The bomb doesn’t even look powerful enough to destroy a whole amusement park, Dr. Claw doesn’t to bluff. But when the thing goes off you’d think that simply putting it in water wouldn’t make any difference, and that Dr. Claw would be 50 miles away from the amusement park. Yet he’s right in the general area of the blast site, and isn’t even threatening to blow up the city. You would think he openly despised Metro city. but there’s no sign of him expressing any anger towards it or its people. At least the villains from SWAT Kats had alternative visions of their own cities they wanted to see built in place of MegaKat City.
"A Star is Lost":-Although the episode has an interesting set up its poorly executed, particularly with this silly ending. Rick Rocker is not believable, a big enough jerk, or charming in the way you would expect and 80s rock star to be.
"M.A.D. Academy"-Another episode with an interesting premise that was poorly executed. It would’ve been fun to see Penny investigating the Academy while the students try and do her uncle in. We could’ve learned a lot of interesting things about how M.A.D works as an organization and a chance for Penny to really show her skills if she has to infiltrate the school. The episode would’ve worked just as well with Gadget and Penny separately fleeing the Academy and barely escaping from it. With penny vowing to destroy the Academy and encountering it, and the students she met in this episode in future episodes.
"No Flies on Us"- A boring episode with tedious pace and Gadget being really stupid.
“The Ruby”- a good episode, whose only real flaw is the cultural and religious insensitivity shown by the writers or possibly the artists when they chose Quimby’s disguise. You’d think a goddess with over 1 billion followers would get more respect and consideration from other cultures during the 80s.
“Weather in Tibet”- A jumbled mess of an episode that pays no respect to Tibet or its people. There have been other examples of stereotyping and insulting portrayals of other cultures in the show, but this is the worst offender. It is also be episode. I enjoy the least because it seems like so little thought was put into it. The only good thing is that the weather control machine, Dr. Claw’s base, and the machine’s power source were cool looking cool.
"Do Unto Udders"-This episode has a very questionable premise (can’t they just import milk from another city? What about the people who are lactose intolerant and don’t care?) and just kind of peters on until the end.
"Quizz Master"- A disappointing way to end the first season of this cartoon, and an average episode overall. In my opinion "Gone Went the Wind" would have been a stronger episode to end the season on. If they had to end the so after two seasons they really should’ve ended with the episode “A Bad Altitude”. Ideally, a few episodes earlier Penny would learn that Dr. Claw eliminated her parents, more unrealisticly (just because I can. Penny teams up with Adsuko a few times and when she turns 13 Penny discovers discovers that she has a crush on Adsuko. At the end of “A Bad Altitude” Dr. Claw has turned off his computer, and after temporarily being distracted by his He waits with a wine glass in hand to hear the explosion go off. His own obliviousness, arrogance, hatred of Gadget, ruthlessness, and abusive relationship with his own cat all come back to bite him in the ass in the end. The bomb she sent back up the elevator would explode, killing the evil Doctor and his cat.
To top it all off, Penny’s parents created her computer book and watch. They were killed in a bomb explosion ordered by Dr. Claw, the same bomb explosion that caused Gadget to get his bionic parts. How’s that for ironic ending to the show and Dr. Claw?
This results in Penny revealing the truth to her stunned, horrified, and dismayed uncle as chief Quimby considers arresting her for "eliminating" the man who "got" her parents. The Christmas special would reveal that she was acting in self-defense. Her friend from “The Japanese Connection” contacts Penny and our heroine (with encouragement from a somewhat confused Gadget and an excited Brain). She asked her friend out on a date and the surprised girl thinks about it for a moment and then says yes, and then explains why she called. Quimby wants her to start training as a Detective-Agent as soon as she’s old enough. The special would end with Gadget officially adopting Penny, and Gadget apologizing to Brain for all the pain he put him through and probably stating that they would all look after each other from now on , and with some help from his daughter, he would try and be a better detective. The final shot would show the three of them heading to Japan to help Penny’s Japanese counterpart free her country from the sinister samurai.
