In the French version of inspector gadget cartoon some of the themes apparently have lyrics. I saw translation for the ones in Sophie’s theme. Sophie is penny’s name in the French and most international versions. The name is fitting because Sophie means knowledge. This has a double meaning as Penny/Sophie is smart and keeps a secret or two from both her uncle and M.A.D.
However, the lyrics in Sophie’s theme don’t make much sense, though this may simply be due to a poor translation.
As a result of this, I came up with my own ones. Before I show them I have a quick warning: the second and third verses of the song are more dark and psychological as Penny is more honest with herself there. Also I did write this initially for the live action rewrite outline working on so although I’m putting this here and it does fit the cartoon bear that origin in mind.
Sophie speaking, ” To the world my uncle is a famous Detective-Agent of Interpol, but he has three shadows, only one of which he knows. His dog Brain is one of them, I’m the other.”
Music starts- “Who am I?”
First verse- I’m a girl, I’m a techie, I’m strong. I solve any mysteries before too long. With my computer and Dick Tracy Watch there’s no crime I won’t botch. I guard my uncle with pride with Brain at my side. With my Bio-Computer- Book I hack and with my watch I attack. I can kick, I can punch, I’ll make bad guys lose their lunch. I fight M.A.D on my missions with one sole ambition: To punch Dr. Claw in the face!
He killed my parents. One day I’ll meet him face to face, I don’t know if I’ll bring that M.A.D-man to justice or kill him with my bare hands. Either way I’ll get my revenge, and meet my bosses’ demands.
I don’t need any credit, my story is mine to edit. I got Brain I don’t need anyone to fawn, I’ll reveal it when M.A.D’s gone. My job is awesome, I get to travel the world, save the day, and be a kid detective with good pay. I've got a girl and boy in every port, No trip I'll abort. If pressed I retort their mostly friends and one lover. It comes naturally, if this keeps up I’ll get out of college debt-free. Sometimes I feel too reliant upon my machines, but I have other skills too. Sometimes I feel like a machine myself, but even if my hands are steel, M.A.D’s secrets I’ll reveal. I am smart. I do much of Inspector Gadget’s work, cunning Sophie, Strong Sophie.
