How do you react to being given a gag gift? Years ago back when I could afford to buy people better gifts, knowing my father is as much into media as I am. I bought him a 3D video / gaming viewer ( this is before VR really took off ). I had warned him in advance it was meant for mainly iPhones but could support some Android phones. I didn't know which Android phone he was using. It turns out he got the set working and took to enjoying it. This year in advance by months he hinted to me strongly I could expect a modern VR set and by the way he made it seem, a really sweet one. He's known for a long time I'm a proud Windows Mobile user. ... He got me I can best assume a gag gift of an iPhone VR set. My Nokia won't fit in the thing. I don't know what to say in trying to say thanks. He already knows I don't get to see anything of a check. That's going straight to a mechanic.

Now that's what I call a troll father, at least for what I could understand from your text. Sorry for what happened. As a person who has a Nokia Android as well I can't say it's the best phone when it comes of the use of some apps and gadgets, but at least it's good for the important stuff, like phone calls and get the facebook notifications that might be important, so don't feel hard on yourself. What your father did sure was not very kind, but I'm sure someday you might get an iPhone or a least expensive smartphone to use of that VR set. It's just a matter of time.

I wouldn't call him a troll father. He has given gag gifts in the past but nothing he's ever typed to get me hyped about. It turns out it wasn't a gag gift, just one poorly researched.
I called him a couple hours after the first post was made and thanked him but explained about the fit issue and the instructions pointing it out to be for iPhone usage. He said Amazon had listed it meant for all smartphone operating systems and up to a certain size for the phone fitting.
I looked it up and the product appeared in page two of results. It was being falsely advertised. iPhones / Androids and "other smartphones". One person questioned if it could connect to a PC and the retailer said yes with a special connection cable and app. ( no details given ) At best guess that means iPhone to PC.
Getting my phone to fit in which it doesn't quite do still, involved having me remove it from it's protective shell.
... The Windows App. Store has VR based software, but either they refuse to load and make the phone return to it's home screen. Or the App. gives an error message saying my phone wasn't designed to run the software. ... I have learned the only thing I can do with it is play YouTube 3D side by side videos.
The device has buttons on it but my phone has bluetooth connection problems and I believe bluetooth connecting has to do with those buttons.
I have had one iPhone and it was given as a present second hand. Gen 4 with a good amount of gbs to it. I had to stop using it since it was glitching badly and somehow developed a hardware issue making the screen inaccessible. There is no way due to cost I could buy a new one. Heck, that second hand phone? It was gifted by a friend in Houston who is a doctor. When I had to have it unlocked to accept all carriers, T-Mobile and Cricket thought it was stolen until she spoke with the Cricket store to explain it wasn't.
My only real experience with an Android is one which was ... awful is an under statement. Lets just say it being a sale item from Walmart should have been a warning signal to me not to buy it.

I am okay with gag gifts as long as it's a joke that I think is funny. For example I am okay with joy buzzers cause I find those amusing.

[Late to the party]
I'm a fan of gag gifts. I enjoy giving them out and getting them. I gave my mother a squishy peen as a birthday gift last year and my husband got a children's book as a joke gift for Christmas. It's all in good fun.
