I have a strange question for you guys, especially for everyone who has a DeviantArt account. as you all know, I'm one of the "active" co-founders on an IG group that my twin sister created years ago and since she has no time for it, she added me to keep an eye on things... even though I'm not a founder on there, I've been taking care of it for awhile and enjoying it.
Anyways, I'm having an on going issue on other members posting A LOT of memes that has a lot to do with their OCs and other mixed media like anime and other cartoons. I've been on DeviantArt for 14 (going on 15) years with 2 different accounts and I've seen the rise of artist creating "Memes" as "Art". which I don't see the problem, but a lot of them are NOT on topic and mostly are images that were taken from the internet.
Anyways, can somebody tell me the difference between memes and spam? I don't want to remove something that is a meme that is on topic without me noticing and get somebody upset, but I want other artist to get noticed without spam getting in the way.
can somebody help me out?

I know exactly to what you are referring to in your group and know it's been showering the other IG groups as well but not as much. Personally I consider most of it the destruction of innocence when the perverted ones are posted. Unless these people are using grabbed images they've found around the internet, sometimes I have to read the artist comments to learn what form of connection the creator has deemed it has to the fandom. Lord the Sailor Moon instant cookie cutter art . I chalk up this flood of random posts meant to fulfill the fetish wishes of uncouth fans as spam. But that's simply because I consider it distasteful. ... I could keep ranting on here. It really bugs me and I think you know more reasons why even unlisted.

I do agree with you, ironic because I just deleted a "meme" that involved sailor moon yesterday and they used one of the images from the original manga. *sigh* I know some memes can be funny and creative where it's does have a lot to do with the fandom, but there are so many that has a lot of "list" of favorite characters, cartoons, anime and etc. I've been seeing them a lot lately and I don't consider them as "art".
and as for fetishes, I've seen them a lot too and I look at them as disrespectful.

It also depends on the meme. some meme's are very foul and offensive. while others are made in a sarcastic manner.
