This is just a bit of an opinion question, but did anyone else find 2015!Penny's design to be a bit boring? I mean, she's got the build and height of just about every teenage protagonist out there. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't very creative either.
Personally, in my head, I like to play with teen!Penny's design a bit. I'd make her short and a little bit on the chubbier side, as a bit of a contrast with Gadget's tall, lanky physique. I also like the idea if keeping her basic color scheme, but switching to a white blouse with a red vest and a green skirt over a pair of leggings.
So, out of curiosity, if given the opportunity, how would you do a redesign?

Just using this picture as an example. I would make her look like a Pokemon trainer. Seriously, the athletic style fits so well, I would probably have her wear layer short sleeve shirts, preferably, a white one underneath a red one, leggings underneath green shorts, I would probably give her one ponytail instead of two pig tails, and of course you can't forget fingerless gloves.

Totally agree on the fingerless gloves, but I wouldn't get rid of the pigtails. There are just some details that have to stay.

eh yeah penny looks kinda generic in this series. not bad but not very interesting. nice idea to change up her height and build.
i like the clothing designs of female pokemon trainers, i think those would make some good inspiration for outfits for penny.
aren't pigtails kinda juvenile though? i've never seen a teenage girl wear pigtails. i think double buns could work and look pretty cute. it'd be neat to see penny in some different hairstyles.

I just see the pigtails as to iconic to lose. Every version of her has had them. That said, I could see switching up the types between episodes, there being traditional, braids, looped, or odangos (twin buns).

True, but Penny isn't as girly as Serena/Usagi. I probably wouldn't change Penny's signature ponytails, I would probably change her bangs, make them more side-swept.

But she's not really tomboyish either (when I say that, I'm thinking Gosalyn Mallard tomboyish). She's more in between then on either extreme. That said, I really like the idea of side swept bangs. I never really liked the original bang cut. Edit: after I wrote this, I realized Gosalyn has pigtails, too.

Thanks. TV tropes has more on that specific style, if you're curious. The only thing for me is that there needs to be two. The specific styles can change, but there should be one on each side of her head, or two on the back.
