This is canon for my Gadget, but I thought I'd share my reasoning.
I suspect that Gadget might be dyslexic. I've noticed traits that seem to be common for him with his reading that might suggest this. The most common is with his mission notes. He always puts them right up to his face as he reads them. Now, we all know he stereotype of jumbled letters, but in reality, dyslexia effects each person differently. In Gadget's case, he has a hard time understanding what he is reading unless he is giving it his total attention. That's why every time we see him read, he really has to put it right in front of his face. This often causes problems when he attempts to multitask, such as reading directions and driving at the same time.
That said, I don't think anyone is aware of his dyslexia. He most certainly isn't.
That's just the conclusions I came up with based on what I saw. What do you think?

Now that you mention it, even so I'm not exactly an expert of dyslexia, this sure has it point.

That used to be me, having a piece of paper or a book way up close to my face, I don't have dyslexia, but I do have an astigmatism. Poor eyesight, maybe?

Ok...ummm....am I the 'only' person who finds it 'very' hard to believe that Gadget has poor eyesight??? I think the reason he's always holding things so close, is because he is just so submerged in his work, and he doesn't want to miss a single detail. And if you notice nine times out of ten, he'll look real quick around himself right before he reads, cause he doesn't want any ease dropping eyes watching him. It's top secret after all right? Maybe that's his way of shielding it from view, just in case. I also heard rumor that his eyes are actually bionic and he can remove them, but I don't recall ever seeing it, however it's a long time since I've seen all the episodes, so maybe he did at one point. But if that is the case, then I honestly see him being able to spot a tick on a dog, over five miles away! But only 'if'....he really wanted to!

I find it hard to believe that Von Slickstein would install some propellers, but not add something to give 20/20 vision. Now, it could be that he had bad vision before he got his gadgets, and it's just a habit that stuck around even after the problem was gone.
