I grew up watching reruns of Get Smart and Inspector Gadget so I've been familiar with his work as far back as I can remember. I didn't catch all the jokes of Get Smart when I was younger but always enjoyed watching it with my grandma who was a big fan of the show. As I got older I was able to appreciate his the timing and delivery of his acting and I still think his stand up routines hold up just as well today. A really great talent. It was said that he wanted to do drama but was pigeon-holed into comedy because Maxwell Smart was such a successful character. Too bad because I really would have liked to see him act in a more serious role for once.

The man was just to iconic for words to me! I was first introduced to Mr. Adams, through Inspector Gadget. My mom and dad, first knew him through Maxwell Smart, from Get Smart. There was just something about that voice of his, that kept my eyes glued to the screen! Even with the others that came after, they were all acting trying to sound like Mr. Adams. And I could always tell the difference between the voice actors, and when it wasn't him! When I found out that Don Adams was in the service, earlier in his adult life. I was like, 'Holy hell that's awesome! ...Gadget was a marine!!!'

If I recall he didn't serve long because he contracted an illness from a mosquito bite which was 90% fatal and managed to survive. I also thought it was great that he took his wife's last name of Adams, even if he only used it to get his name higher up on alphabetical lists while trying to get work.

I recall watching re runs of get smart. I forget which channel. I wish the re runs would get shown more often.
