I just read a fanfic where something happened that really irked me. It was a crossover with another series that ran your typical "villains team up, Penny and other heroine get captured, they escape, save the day" type things. Then the end came.
It didn't seem like much. Penny was introduced to the techie character from the other show, and things seemed normal until he said this (I paraphrase.)
"Hi, Penny. I'm a big fan of you, but I don't like your uncle."
Penny's response to this was an awkward (once again, paraphrased): "He gets better when you know him."
Oohhh, that bugged me. Penny would not have such a chill reaction to something like that! I mean, that's essentially saying "Hi. I think you're cool, but the man who raised you can take a hike." How rude is that!?! After all, how would you respond if someone said "I like you, but I don't really like your family." I'd be furious!
Had that been ReInitiated, Penny would have given a more "Lizzie Bennet" response., i.e. an icy death glare that means "I really don't like you" followed by a prompt exit. After all, her whole reason to start crime fighting was to keep that man alive! She wouldn't physically attack (she is fourteen, now, after all), but it would take waaayyy more than a "lol, yeah, but he's not that bad" to get over it.
What do you think? Do you think that's an OK comment? How do you think she'd react?

Urgh... this is why I don't like the people who see the serie in a wrong perspective. If someone told me something like that my answer would be "Well, I'm sure your family is POOP as well.", but in the case of Penny I'm sure she would answer something else. She knows that Gadget is too idiotic when it comes on solving his missions, but he IS her uncle and she doesn't give a crap if he's not the one who solve them. She knows her uncle is not good when it comes to that, but she knows he's good in other things.

I always hated the fan fics, where they ended up shitting all over Gadget. Or the ones that were like, 'Take away Gadget and the series is good!' Really?..Wtf!!! That's like saying 'Naruto' would be awesome, without Naruto!..Wtf???.. ..You can't have a good series if you take away the 'MAIN' character from said show!! Anyway enough of that, as a responds. Sometimes no answer, is the right answer. An ice cold death glare, with no verbal responds, I think would have worked out very nicely. As she nonchalantly walks away.

I don't think with Naruto would be that case. Unlike the Gadget series, people love Naruto. But I get your point. Like Gadget, Naruto is also an idiotic character who can't do anything right except goofing around while fighting, but unlike Gadget, Naruto have a a reason why he does that. Not to mention that he's a character that grows better in the near future. It's like Steven from Steven Universe. The boy is also a useless character until he gets better in the future. Gadget never had those, which is sad, but I guess the authors never had that in mind in the 80's.

Sure, its understandable that someone might not like Gadget, but for that to literally be the second things this person says to her is incredibly rude. And then to have her take it and somewhat agree with it!?! If she didn't just let the death glare talk, her response would be something like "I know my uncle is not too bright, and no one has to like everyone. But for you to form a preconceived opinion of him, before you know him, and then tell me of that opinion before you even know me? Why would I find that flattering?" "Uhh-" "Good day to you." *Leaves*

Like I said, I'm sure Penny would answer something clever but I don't know what exactly. I like your answer option, but I think Phasm give a more convenient point of view of how Penny would answer to that character. There's no need to answer to a jerk, just move on or in case it's necessary just giving a "bird".

That's the reaction I think would have been better to. As to the author not liking the idea of the main character. That uh, I've heard of this happening many times but in regards to a different fandom. I've been an MLP fan since it's start back in the day. When I wrote United I felt the need to brush up on a generation I'd somehow bypassed knowing of, G3. But as directed at little little kids as it was, and not 100% being my cup of tea. I didn't attack it's characters but just rolled with the idea of it's feel when writing them. The author here could have done a better job at not pressing their thoughts about IG on to an audience expecting a nice crossover story.

I get what your saying.
I hate it when people are bashing gadget.
He is important cause Penny needs him and that is good enough for me.
