While I was going though youtube, I saw both of of these videos on my list... it seems like the 2015 series was confirmed canceled. I looked into the Wikipedia website and it ended in May of 2018.
Just to tell you the truth, I wasn't too crazy about the 2015 series, however I feel bad for the fans that was hoping for for it to go on or just have a decent ending.... but I guess that'll leaves both fans of the original and the 2015 series in a cliffhanger.... once again.
So, everybody's thoughts on this?

Saw those as well. I actually left a comment on both videos saying the same text and funny though I only got some "likable" replies on Talon 2018 video. I can totally understand the disappointment of the fans of this reboot, the series could've at least give a decent ending. But just like you I wasn't too crazy of this series as well since it didn't offer much and not to mention it was not loyal to the original. What upsets me however is that the fans of this reboot only likes to watch it because of the Talenny thing and nothing else, like screw that the original series was a little about family love, screw the fact that the creators never gave a point of view to what happened to Penny's parents or why does she lives with her uncle, screw the fact that because the Gadgetinis came out first before this that there was a guy named William who was suppose to be "almost" Penny's boyfriend, screw all of that. I mean ok, everyone likes and dislike different things, there's nothing wrong with that, but saying that the original series was not good and this one was better because of Talenny?! Sigh, I don't know, maybe I'm being too hard on myself because of it.

Sigh, I don't know, maybe I'm being too hard on myself because of it. I do agree with you with this and I do feel the same way. I've followed this cartoon for a very long time (since very early of 2002 when I first got online) and I've noticed recently how the 2015 fans became very obsessed with the new character (Talon) and just don't care for the original only because it was made at a different time and the character doesn't exists.
when I first saw the first 2015 episode, it felt like I was watching something on speed. (like WTF did i just watched?) everything was very rushed, but just to think about it, it's very normal cartoons for this generation to have that type of writing, very fast storytelling since bingewatching started. however, the original had the opposite effect and that's one of the big reasons why a lot of 2015 fans think it's "boring" and are turned off only because it's has a lot slower storytelling than 2015, plus it was made before binge watching existed, so they get the basic formulaic results in each episode...
however, I personally think the original IG skipped half a generation in the early 2000's here in America (unless in my area in the east coast) and a lot of kids around that time never heard of it nor grew up with it until video streaming started to get popular in mid to late 2000's. (like youtube, netflix and hulu) so that might be another reason.
As for the Gadgettinies, it was never shown here in America, so hardly anybody knew about it unless it was looked up online. and I didn't know anything about Penny having a love interest until recent years. but I do understand why the gadgetinies fans are angry with that, even though the spin-off was loosely based on the original, it seems like they just left William in the dust... he was created by the same company and same creators of the original, why not use him in the reboot? you agree?
And as for the original (and unanswered) premise, I've had read comments after comments about how it was left untouched in the reboot and how much it was wasted in the original. I'm really hoping that it would be brought out in the light! unless they just don't want to touch it for some reason.
Anyways, i'm not bashing on 2015, everybody has different views about it, some love it, some don't. I just share my thoughts between them. but hopefully somebody down the line would pick up this franchise and handled it the right way for once! after reading so much history behind it..... sadly, it's a hot mess.

Oh boy, these fans are something. And yes, I was also with the same feeling when I saw the reboot for the first time, and like you mentioned one of the down sides of it was that it was too fast, but it's kind of funny 'cause cartoons in the nowadays, especially some of the Cartoon Network ones, has 11min of episode as well but at least the series try to tell a story for each episode without any rush (at least that's how I feel with Steven Universe, Adventure Time and Regular Show) while this one doesn't tell a decent story at all because of the rushness. Not to mention how the main characters were poorly out of character, which was something I also mention on the comment, but interestingly enough, because the fans prefer this reboot mostly because of the point you mentioned about the era they were born, they find that the new personalities are a lot better than the old ones which leads me to the question "are they serious?" because I really didn't like how the creators portrayed Penny. But I can't say the people who were born in the late 2000's has any fault, and I'm not going to say that people who were born back in the 70's, 80's and 90's had good animated series 'cause there were some that if you watch now you realize some of them were not that good either, not to mention that the 80's animation was mostly done because of the toys merchandise and so some of the series had a more random argument instead of a story telling, at least that what I felt when rewatching some series from that time and by watching some videos on youtube talking about it. But we can't complain much because everyone as a different point of view when watching any animated series. By the way could you explain a little more about the term bingewatching? I never heard of it so I'm kind of curious. I didn't know the Gadgetinis series never passed in America though it passed on the Jetix channel, unless it wasn't an American channel. But yes, asides of the sad changes the creators made the series was at least a little respectful to the original. And I also understand the angriness of the fans because of what you mentioned. Oh, neither do I! I even mentioned on the comment that although it wasn't good it was still watchable. Oh dear, that part of the story behind it being a hot mess kind of scares me.

I know in the original there were only a few episodes when we saw a little bit more competents in Gadget, even though the original went though a lot of writers, so you can really tell the difference. and on the fact they did the same with Dr. Claw, another character where they lowered the IQ where it took almost all of the edge off! make it more comic instead of being serious. that was a huge turn off for me only because that's how you remember him, a villein character that his employees were afraid of if they mess up.... but I beg the differ.. I understand changes were needed to be made for this generation so they can enjoy it. but why dumbing them down? and also why make of mockery of the original series which was 'based' off from? that's one of the reasons why I don't call it a "sequel"... sadly.
you are right 80's animation, I personally think each generation has a bunch of good animation and a bunch of bad ones. I have watched quite a few good ones that were made for this generation and on the fact they do get in depth where you are able to know the characters and their background story and they became likeable. however, I've read a lot of history about 80's cartoons (I also own a book about them) and I would say the majority of them were just 20 to 25 minute commercials. lol! as for the original IG, it was mainly made for nostalgia from 1960's spy shows for American viewers (and also Europe viewers too)... not for toys, even though to did had a small toy line around that time. (an action figure, games, books and (extremely rare) plushies... and later on in the early 90's, they made small action figures and one with reviling dr claw's face... *sigh*) but anyways, it's not all this generation that has bad cartoons, there are quite a few good ones out there and I'm hoping to see more if Hollywood (and other places) will stop being so lazy! but each generation ever since cartoons started will always have some cartoons that are not that great to watch.
The term "binge watch" is where you'll be able to watch a bunch of episodes from one after another in a small period of time. (i didn't realize that i didn't put spaces in between. lol.. my bad) that I could do in some shows, as for the original IG, I always have to space them out because it does get tiring after awhile, same with other 80's and 90's cartoons and also tv shows from that time that I tried to binge watch... since we had to wait till the next day or week to watch the episode when they first aired in the past, it does have a different effect than the shows today. (but it depends on the person and their taste)

Exactly! That's what upset me because it wasn't only Penny who got changed, it was all of the characters, except probably Quimby, I think that his personality was the same but with some sort of improvements, at least from my point of view (I only didn't like that they made his character design a little too dorky). And let's not forget Brain, who was a very loyal character even when Gadget was a pain in his ass but here he turned out as a grumpy old dog. But Penny change was what really let me down because of what you mentioned, she was indeed a great role model on that time period and probably the only competent female character who proved that girls/women could do things that even men can do (I'm probably wrong, but I recalled someone asking if Penny was the only role model on the 80's to Andy Heyward on a chat while during a streaming back in December, I was even working on my IG fanart), while in this one she just became a convinced teenager. And yes, I wouldn't consider this one a sequel to the original as well, although I would like to use some ideas from this reboot to my fanfictions since there were some episodes and moments that weren't that bad, but not going to the same level that this reboot offered of course. ^^; Indeed. And yes, IG was one of the few 80's animated series that was made not for toy selling but really for entertainment. Hm, I'm afraid that creating cartoons in the nowadays might not be easy as before and I really blame the new generation we're living. While some animators actually try to offer something spectacular, giving a good story telling and using themes that should be shown to call out the humanity (Steven Universe is a good example of that though it's not the only series that tries to show mature content) there's only someone, mostly viewers to complain, especially the parents who are too sensitive that their children watch something too mature for some kind of reason. Not to mention that because the old generation want to rewatch the good old cartoons on TV (because apparently the internet is not good for that ) it's normal that the animators go with the reboots so the old generation can see their favorite characters on new adventures and the new generation can get to know the old series. However, while there are some good reboots like Ducktales and Voltron (I was also going to mention the new She-Ra but I know she's between the sword and the wall by the viewers), others didn't turned out well like Teen Titans, the Powerpuff Girls, Ben Ten and, of course, Inspector Gadget. I can't help myself but feeling that animation in general is dying slowly unfortunately and I mostly blame the viewers and the new generation around the internet. Oh! I thought it could have been something related to the fact that the animation in the nowadays have only 11min episodes, but now I see what you mean. A mystery indeed… Oh yes, I think I remember reading that!

yes indeed, since you mentioned it, I was pretty shocked how the writers changed Penny's personalty. like it was going the opposite direction on a female role model into a "love-struck" teenager chasing after a bad boy. it's very sad really because a lot of people our age who grew up with the original did looked up to her as a role model and also some had a fictional crush, lol. but, it seems like when they took that away, she became unlikable and not much of a role model like she used to be, same thing with Gadget... on the fact that they didn't bother with 'character development' with him, they just lowered his IQ where it didn't need to be. that was another issue I've read loads of comments from other fans where they wish they made him a little more competent and more of a back story where they get to know him a little bit more better. I really agree with you there! however I didn't watch the whole first season to compare between Brain and Quimby, but I've noticed the change in Brain... which i think it's pretty sad, like you said, he is loyal to Gadget and saved him in so many ways in the past. and i do want to point out that one character that i find more strange is Professor Von Slicksfein; because the age shift was just too just strange for me, I was always thinking he was his son (or grandson) that took over the lab. lol! I cannot compare his personality to the original because he only appeared in 3 episodes. but another thing I wondered if they ever mentioned Professor Gizmo? did he ever appeared in 2015? because it wasn't just 1 Professor who worked on Gadget, there where 2.
And you are right about Penny being a role model for girls only because she was one of many cartoon role models in the 80's when there was still a movement for interdependent women and girls around that time. (boy, times did changed) however, at least we both have the same views on how they "downgraded" Penny's personality which I really do think it's a shame.
I do agree about this generation, it seems like the animation world is walking on eggshells on showing entertainment without offending anybody! I mean throughout animation history there will always be that one or many cartoons that everybody is going to remember because they pushed boundaries where somebody is going to complain.... however, I haven't seen Steven Universe yet, but I've head a lot of good reviews about it, but again bad reviews. (but that's a different topic, lol!) however, I've heard it's not dumbed down like the majority of cartoons out there, I think that's why it's 1 of many few cartoons that stands out the most in this generation.
You know, the reboot tend has been going on for quite some time that it seems like they are going down the list on everything that existed in the past and they are really cashing in on. I personally think it depends how animation companies handles the franchise and if they really handled it with care or just toss it to the side just to make cash on nostalgia.
I know the Ducktales reboot was very good only because they stayed true to the comics and on the fact it's another Disney propriety they decided to put their hard work on for today's viewers, that's one of the reasons why it's good because they stay true to it. and She-Ra was another cartoon that hasn't been touched in 32 years (as far as i know of) but was chosen to be rebooted, but to me, it seems like they are handling it pretty well even though they are now owned by somebody else. (but again, that's my opinion) as for the reboots that didn't do too well, all I can say is only if they would put effort into it, they will be enjoyable. but sadly, they didn't became as good as we all hoped it would. sadly IG 2015 reboot followed that fate since they didn't put that much effort and care into it, even though the franchise was bought out 4 times in it's existence.

To be honest I actually didn't like professor Gizmo, don't know why, maybe because his character design and personality wasn't that appealing to me as much as Slickstein, not to mention he only appeared in one. And asides of these two there were more scientists but from the movies, Brenda and Baxter (or was it Dexter?) from the Disney movies, Louis from the Biggest Capter Ever and that other one which I can't recall the name from IG Last Case, but I presume those ones are never to be mentioned. ^^; But oh yes, my impression of Slickstein from this reboot was also the same. Indeed, it is. Indeed. Most cartoons in the nowadays seems quite more dumber from the rest, although the first season of SU didn't start very well until the later episodes starting probably with episode "Mirror Gem" which was the one that made me give an opportunity to this serie. But not only SU had that problem. Adventure Time is also a good example, it also started like "eh" until it got more focus on story telling, although I personally preferred how the serie was before since it felt one of those point of view parody of the good old video games like Mario, Zelda, etc, but I won't deny that the story got very good later on though it's not a serie I watch frequently. And then there's The Amazing World of Gumball which is a good comedy serie about paroding everything about real life. But yeah, most nowadays series don't have that same focus. Agreed. I didn't watch the 2017 Ducktales that much, probably because when I watched the first episode I was kind of disappointed with the fact that Hewy, Loui and Dewy didn't know who uncle Scrooge was, but after watching some previews of the last episode I understood why. As for She-Ra I saw the serie though I skipped some episodes because it felt kind of tiring only watching Adora spending time with those two friends which felt the same to each episode, I only liked the part where she and Catra were face-to-face screentime because their relationship felt more interesting and I wanted to know more about their past. And personally the character design style from this reboot felt more likable than the original, probably because I was never an huge fan/appreciator of too realistic character design. But yeah, the other reboots were indeed done poorly, although I won't lie that I kinda liked the first two seasons of Teen Titans GO, probably because some of the jokes were appealing to me (I've always been a fan of silly comedy since I saw the movie Naked Gun and Scary Movie for the first time long years) but after those I started to dislike it since the jokes weren't funny anymore, and I was so disappointed with the 2016 Powerpuff Girls though I know Craig McCracked wasn't involved in it but when you're an huge fan of the original… it was kind of painful although I liked the episode with Bliss. Oh yes, the poor franchise suffered that indeed, first with Disney, then Cookie Jar and now Dhx Media.

(and i think it was Dexter, lol!) the only IG movie I didn't see was the biggest capter ever because of the odd looking CGI really turned me off and I've read a lot of negative reviews on it.. so, I didn't want to touch it. but it seems like they add another scientist in the mix. but i'll give credit to the 2015 reboot because they did bought back slickstein... but differently this time. Oh yeah, I've tried to watch Teen Titans Go for 5 minutes and i just had to change the channel, it's not much of my taste for something too hyper and upbeat. however, the original was very good and it did had a very good story line, but it was sad to see it became wasted in the reboot. and as for the Powerpuff Girls, another reboot I've read and watched reviews about, that was another reboot I didn't want to touch. I was a teenager when i saw the original and became 'somewhat' of a fan. but on the fact that the creator wasn't involved, I had that feeling it was going to not as good. Yes indeed, the IG franchise suffered a lot from going one place after another and once was bought back to it's original creators. the one thing that gets me thinking because the franchise was the only original creation from DiC entertainment. (besides Kidd Video which has copyright music and cartoons from DiC France which was before they opened their branch here in the US.) but the rest of the cartoons that were made were licensed from other properties and they didn't make any more original cartoons after that.
I always did find the history of IG very interesting because of the animation studios behind it which worked on a lot of famous anime and other cartoons though out the years. (according to IMDb, it's long list on what anime and cartoons the majority of animators worked on before and after they worked on the original IG) and also had Nelvana worked on it too which got them out of debt when their movie bombed in the box office. and it did break animation ground because it stood out than the rest of the cartoons in the early 80's. however, it still gets me that Disney once owned it, but didn't put much effort into it, but a loosely based live-action movie which also bombed. *sigh* honestly, I think it would've been a lot better animated since Disney was famous for animation... do you agree?
Anyways, I'm not sure if you ever saw this video or it was ever shared on here. but here's the history behind DiC entertainment. just to warn you, it's very long and the narrator is very sarcastic (lol), but A LOT of information about the IG franchise and other DiC cartoons you might remember.
As an animation history junkie, I did sit thought the whole thing, lol!

Indeed. And yes, the Biggest Capter Ever had a terrible CGI animation. Yes, the original Teen Titans was good both in animation and also story telling. My only downside with the serie is actually when they used those anime cliches, which were very popular at the time, I personally think they didn't fit well with the animation, but that's probably me. But yes, I can totally understand why many fans got mad with the reboot since it was indeed a waste of opportunity. No, it was never shared, and this is the first time I watch it. Thanks for the share! And boy, DiC was really an animation company that passed through a lot, it's kind of sad. I mean they didn't indeed have good animated series with the exception of Gadget and SatAM Sonic the Hedgehog (I'm only not mentioning the Real Ghostbusters because for me, without mentioning it probably never passed on the Portuguese channel unless only before the 90's, it's not exactly my kind of serie to watch) but I don't think they deserved the treat they received, especially from Disney which for what I understood from the video they weren't indeed kind for them. And yes, I still wonder why they went to the live action and not with an animated movie.

Yes indeed, the Biggest Capter seemed to be a very low budget film released into DVD even though I'm surprised that they had Bernie Mac voiced the gadgetmobile. however, I was reading on the wiki page they were about to make more IG films after this one, but it never continued because of weak sales... this is why I wish they didn't cut corners on the CGI animation and writing. *sigh* another thing that I would like to give IG 2015 credit is that the 'new' gadgetmobile never talked (as far as I'm aware) and given a personality! even though they just ditched the old one and added a new weird-looking smaller one, (which it did upset a lot of the original fans including myself) but I'm glad that they didn't follow that annoying cliche, (thanks to Disney) it would've been way too weird like the other ones. I do agree with original Teen Titans, from going back and forth between anime and cartoon was pretty annoying. (I know IG 2015 did the same thing with anime chibis which it felt (my opinion) kinda annoying, but very out of place.) but I always did like the original Teen Titans premise and I can see why a lot of fans are not to happy about the reboot... another dumbed down and wasted opportunity to add to children's programing. you know, I remember one day at work, (I work around big families with a lot of kids) I overheard a family with small kids having a conversation about Teen Titans Go and how much they were disappointed in the recent seasons. what caught my attention is that one of them call it "a stupid show on cartoon network" so I guess even some kids are noticing how lazy the entertainment industry has gotten throughout the years. You're welcome! yes, it's very sad on what happened this company, but if you really get in deep into the history on what was going in the entertainment industry especially here in the US, everybody was buying everybody out around that time; however, DiC went though a lot of names because of this, but still kept their title. I honestly think they only had a handful of good animated series, however you can really noticed how much their quality and writing dipped in the late 80's throughout the 90's. At least I wasn't the only one puzzled on why they didn't make the IG movie animated. they had so much to work with with the premise from original series, why waste it? I don't know if anybody agrees with me, but you would've think Disney would take that opportunity to continue on what happens next after the last episode? and also I do want to add for what else they could've done that would made it more interesting. like all of those unanswered questions we all noticed in the original premise... like what ever to Penny's parents? why is Penny living with with Gadget? where did Penny get her computer book and watch? how did they discovered Brain? what was Brain's background story since he's 'human-like' smart? (besides the 1999 film which it ended up in an explosion) but what was the actual story behind Gadget? and what was his background might've led him to be incompetent? and how he did he get his Gadgets under professor Von Slicksfein and professor Gizmo's care? and the the last question everybody's been wondering... how did Dr. Claw became as a villain? (even though, he is very mysterious and it could be unanswered) and why he is so desperate to get rid of Gadget? if you think about it, it was a pretty dark premise for a "light-hearted" children's series. but again, it was wasted to the core!
Honestly, when I first heard about IG 2015 being made, I was excited because they called it a "sequel" and was really hoping for them to continue on for what they left off in the original series. (yes, including Capeman (ugh), but just brief appearances! ) and on the fact that DHX took over which has a good rep from taking over the "My little Pony" franchise. (I've never watched it, but it has a very strong fandom for the reboot) so, I actually was in high hopes for 2015... but on the fact they ignored a lot the original premise and added their own touches to it on purpose (including adding (my opinion... odd) CGI, the change of the character designs and personalities, *sigh* and adding Talon), sadly I had that feeling it wasn't going to last .... hopefully the next time somebody else would pick up this franchise would look deep into original premise and work with it... like I said before, it is pretty dark if you think about it! and that's something that we fans would want to see bring to light... do you agree?

Well no wonder it was low budget. The CGI it's awful, it felt like Burbank Films and Video Brinquedo made a corporation to create this abomination of animated movie. However I do recall that the argument was decent, not good but decent, but I haven't watched it for many years (yes, I unfortunately did buy a copy when the DVD came out in my country, even though the cover did tell me that it would probably be a bad idea ) so I can't say I'm right about it. Oh dang, don't remind me about the Gadgetmobile. What were the guys thinking? If the Disney movie already proved that giving a personally to a car was a bad idea then why keeping with it on the other remakes? Because this wasn't the only movie they did that, the Last Case movie also suffered the same. And yes, I do give credit to the 2015 reboot to that as well, but as for the redesign I didn't blame much since in the Gadgetinis they "sadly" did the same thing, but the way how they got rid of the old good Gadgetmobile was sadly dumb (I give credit that they made Gadget wanting to ride his old car even when looking rusty and old before feeling forced to use the new Smart model one). Yes. I mean I didn't mind the trying of going to an anime style, even the original Ben 10 used that as well, by drawing the characters by respecting the body anatomy and the eyes being those small anime eyes similar to Penny but still with that American cartoon style, but unlike Ben 10, which only shrunk the iris of the eyes on the silly moments which worked pretty well, the Teen Titans however used a lot of those silly anime expressions which were indeed annoying and didn't fit well with the art style. Oh boy… and I thought only the Gadget 2015 reboot had that title problem (the last episode from the last season called "we had a good title for this one, but we forgot"), guess I was wrong. Oh yes, I can, damn some of those video games cartoons adaptation, especially Mario and Sonic, even turned into memes and Youtube Poops. But depending on the taste on how the viewer watch all the DiC cartoons there might be some they like better than the others and dislike worst. For example, although I love the Gadget and SatAM Sonic series better I still enjoy watching Dennis the Menace and AOSTH Sonic (this last one is for guilty pleasure, but I can't help not liking this series version of Robotnik which is my favorite so far PINGAS). But funny though, when I watched SatAM Sonic the Hedgehog for the first time back in my old days I do recall loving it but disliking it at the same time, and still today I feel the same because I can't help thinking that this serie was a waste of not making a third season for Gadget, even more than Gadget boy, and the reason for that is really because of how some characters got portrayed, especially Robotnik which felt like a total ripoff of Dr. Claw. I'm with you there. You're not the only one feeling that way, why did they waste their opportunity on giving a point of view when it comes to those questions we fans have? 'Cause it's like you said, although the series is supposed to be a comedy it had a lot of dark themes that even makes me wonder if the series ever worked as a comedy. But I'm actually glad they went with the explosion instead of the banana peel accident. And I also give them credit that in the IG2 they at least respected (and improved) the family love and a little of Claw's character from the original series. Oh dang, I forgot to mention that MLP-FIM is also a good reboot, probably because Lauren Faust, CraigMcCracken's wife, worked on it. My only down side to it is that the later seasons were already being too much, the story didn't have much to offer anymore after probably season 4. But yes, I was also hyped like you about the reboot until I saw the first 2 episodes. There were some stuff I didn't agree asides of inserting Talon and the character's changed personalities, like Penny finally working as a co-agent on Interpol when she was never caught by Gadget before in the first place (in fact I even wonder if Gadget ever agreed on her becoming a co-agent). Oh trust me. If I was rich and would get the opportunity to buy the copyrights of the series I would love to work on my own adaptation, damn I'm even thankful to EyesofthePhasm, if it wasn't for our RPs games we've been doing on DA I would never come up with my own story ideas (so far I have four already, and if Article 13 doesn't pass I would love to continue writing more stories), and of course inviting some people to make a team, who knows, maybe other fans (especially the ones around here ). I would still like to use the other spin-offs as well on my own adaptation, especially the Gadgetinis and the 2015 reboot, but not going the same level they offered, just a sort of rewrite on how these spin-offs should've turned out. It probably won't be possible to have the rights of the series, and there might be some people who might not agree with me, but eh, at least I can keep dreaming about it.

It probably won't be possible to have the rights of the series, and there might be some people who might not agree with me, but eh, at least I can keep dreaming about it. I so agree! you know, I've never seen the DVD in my area around when it came out around that time. usually that'll be something I would find at Wal-Mart or K-mart unless it never made it... I would've come acrossed it while going though their reduced price DVD bin.! however, I didn't know it existed until I came across it on amazon a few years back and boy, that cover wasn't appealing to me.
Anyways, I do agree with you on about the way the 2015 series got rid of the old Gadgetmobile; The way they got rid of it gave me an negative impression on how much they just didn't care about this franchise... and on the fact they gave him a little "Fiat" car that turns into a Porsche was kinda funny, but again... it's not the same. both 'new' cars are too common to make it interesting. (but again, that's my opinion...don't take my word on it) So my reaction was "meh"....
However, the old Gadgetmobile was a crossbreed between 3 cars and 1 (or more) van. (interesting because you do see a lot of vans today that have almost the same 'square' shape; and I have seen A LOT of them in orange, lol! i think the person who picked that color to sell had to be an IG fan!) anyways, a lot of people debate on what type of car and van it really is, and some even suggested to be a 1981 DeLoran DMC 12, but without the 'gull-winded' doors and the motor in the hatch back... However, it came to a conclusion that the original Gadgetmobile design is very close to an early 1980's Lotus Esprit, 1983 Toyota Celica Supra (which was very common around that time) and a 1980-1983 Matra Murena. (which was only made 3 years) And for the van was always questionable to me, it looked like a Japanese made van that was common for around that time, but I was never sure on what type or make it really was... I honestly think the reason why they did this only because they wanted to create an original car/van that everybody remembers (and maybe not being threatened to be sued again). which was a very good idea because even a lot of fans still think it was a very cool car... and on the fact they put a random arm chair in the back of the van is pretty funny.
Even though, I'm not bashing on 2015's new "Gadgetmobile", but I just wish they used more creativity on the design (not the gadgets)... even though, it was cool to see it fly, however, so did the old one in the christmas special.
Yeah, I agree. the anime 'chibis' can only work in some cartoon series, but I honestly think they've been over used. (again, my opinion) however even if the original is half anime (but didn't really have the extreme anime "expressions" like they had with anime characters and chibis), it still think it was unnecessary to add them in the reboot since it's in CGI had a weird shift between 3D to 2D each time.
And as for the "episode titles", yeah, the artwork on them were very strange to me. Just to be honest, I do not like Gadget's re-design on them (both the titles and the CGI). even though, he looks somewhat 'cartoonish' in the original series because Bruno Bianchi did a wonderful job working his designs and gadgets detail to detail. (even in his earlier sketches, you can really see how much he put hard work into them) however, the original Gadget was mainly a mix between cartoon and anime on his characteristics; mainly the shape of his body, hands and legs which reminds me of anime from around that time...(I always did loved the look of his hands and legs, don't mind me, lol!)... meanwhile, the rest of him is mainly 'cartoonish', but pleasant. However, for the 2015 titles, he just look way too cartoonish that you don't really recognize him at first. (I know I didn't at first) plus, it reminds me of the 'recycled' styles they use today. but again, this was to be expected. As for Gadget's CGI design, same thing... very cartoonish and on the fact that they made him too slim really gets to me. Again, these are the styles that are used today which is a "meh" for some of us views. However, they did add eyebrows on Gadget, (which they do appear in the original in a lot frames) but I feel that it makes his face too slim and odd. (but again, that's my opinion)...
I do want to add my thoughts Penny's new design too, (I do have 2 pennies on my thoughts on this, lol!) I do understand the age shift and on the fact they wanted to make her older. (I know every fan does) but she looks much too different than the original and on the fact they they didn't put that much effort on her thick blonde hair with fluffy pigtails and didn't give her turquoise (or green/blue) eyes... I know the animators need to design her to look a little different because of the age shift, but only if they made her a little close to her original design, she would be recognizable.... but again, this is my opinion as an hardcore fan of the original, so don't take my word for it.
as for Brain... I'll just keep this short and sweet. the 2015 design reminds me of "Gromit" from "Wallace and Gromit" (which is an Awesome series) but, not Brain that I remember.... again, I'll just leave it as that.
as for the rest of the characters... I do have my own strong opinions about their "redesigns", but I think it's best to be unsaid, because I think I said enough.
AS for DiC cartoons, just to tell you think truth, I was mainly a Nickelodeon kid throughout the 90's. but once in a great while I would flip though the channels and I would come across a DiC cartoons; like Heathcliff (which I tried my best to get into it but can't) and Madeline. (loved it!) those were the 2 main ones I watched besides IG, However I didn't watch both Sonic series while growing up and I don't remember if I knew anybody around that time did, but i knew it existed though commercials... However, maybe one of these days I would find both series just to see what they were like. I recently found Rainbow Brite on youtube which was one of the series I never grew up with. (I knew it was around, but I don't remember why i never watched it) but I think it's really cute for an 80's girls (and boys) cartoon. as an grown adult in my 30's, I actually did enjoy it... it's not as advanced as compared to today's cartoons, but it was made at a different time and made to sell toys.
My reaction was the same thing too when I first watch the 2015 reboot. the one thing I do want to point out is that they took the "thrill" out by replacing Penny sneaking around behind Gadget's back and cracks each case without him knowing, and replacing it with her working with him (even though he still dosn't know that she cracks each case) instead. I don't know if you ever noticed, but to me the "thrill" was gone! and it seems like I'm watching another Kim Possible episode. (which is nothing wrong with Kim Possible, but they seemed to copy over it when they had Penny doing all those "moves") even though they didn't change on the fact that Gadget gets credit every time, but on the fact she is with him on the case and he knows it, it's not much of a thriller like it once was.
And having Penny joining Gadget into the the organization of his job makes me wonder... I know in the original, Gadget is always commanding Penny to stay home, or stay at the hotel, or stay away from when he's on the case since he knows it's too dangerous. (even though, it did not stop her) but I honestly think if Penny as a young teenager working in that field, I don't think Gadget wouldn't allow it until she comes to the legal age... only because he is VERY overprotected of her and wouldn't allow anything bad happen to her... which was vice versa on how she feels about him (one of the reasons why she sneaks around). but anyway, I also think she'll be more interested the science part of the job when it comes to police work. (like the NCIS series) but again, I'm thinking too much when it comes to that, lol!... but for Penny joining Gadget might've been alright... but I think it just took the majority of the thrill out and just made it less interesting. (yes again, my opinion)
And as for reading fanfitction, I LOVE reading everybody's ideas when it comes to original series because it's so basic! I must've read so many versions of them, it's never ending. when I was on the old IG.NET forum, they had a huge fanfiction list! most of them were sweet family moments that you'll always remember. I just wish I could find them once again since it was shut down 15 years ago. I know, there are so many fans out there (including you and I) would want to get our hands on the franchise copyright! I just wish that would happen, unless have who ever owns it would just Listen to the fans instead of hurting it's reputation over again with their ideas that has nothing to do with the franchise it's self. it's really a shame, this original premise of this franchise is so basic and simple... but it seems to fail every time in a cliffhanger.
Btw, I love your and EyesofthePhasm RPGs! I've read quite a few of them on DA and you guys are Awesome!

I so agree! you know, I've never seen the DVD in my area around when it came out around that time. usually that'll be something I would find at Wal-Mart or K-mart unless it never made it...
I still remember when I bought a copy the girl who attended me for the payment just called her colleague and pointed her finger to the DVD cover saying "hey look, it's Inspector Gadget!", both smiling that even made me smile though I didn't say anything. But god, I also remember when I saw the backside of the cover I almost felt like I wanted to vomit for the way the main characters were designed: Gadget with that creepy smile, Brain was ok but still freaky and Penny looked more like a model for a new Barbie doll. Not to mention that while opening the box it was also unpleasing because the DVD had that creepy Gadget face. You got a point there. Oh yes. I mean anime is really popular and it's no wonder why people like to draw more of it's style, but I personally think those silly expression and chibis only work depending on the artstyle (I won't lie, I also use those but only if my artstyle works with it), which for me didn't work with the original Teen Titans because the artstyle was a little more approachable to the Batman Animated Series. As for the IG reboot I actually didn't mind the chibis, they were kind of cute, but I do agree with you that they were put out of place and don't really fit with the CGI. I actually didn't mind the title cards since I'm an huge appreciator of children book illustrations, which for me felt more like that. But I can see you're point as well when it comes of recycling the characters. And I do agree, Bruno Bianchi did a marvelous job with the original Gadget design. I think the reason why Gadget design feels more like a mix of anime and cartoon is probably because, like we all mentioned before, some of the episodes were drawn by Japanese animators, that's why that feeling since the lineart is very cleaned and the anatomy is very carefully drawn, although his character design has still that french line touch a little similar to, let's just say, Astérix. But yes, the 2015 design is really flat, but as for the eyebrows for me they were okay, they weren't at least exaggerated like in the Viper Comic, but yeah, if they kept those covered like the original it probably would've worked better. That's ok. ^^ As for Penny design I was like "meh, whatever", I didn't dislike it though, it was ok. I just really didn't like her new personality, it was way too out of her original character. As for Brain I remember when I looked at his new design for the first time the character that came right to my mind was Coyote from The Looney Tunes, probably because his appearance looks a little similar, but still I didn't dislike it, just the personality. But yeah, I can see your point of view. The only character design I really didn't like from the reboot was Quimby himself with those dorky glasses, it just took away how rigid and strong the original character was by design, but his personality was ok though. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I also loved the Madeline cartoon, it was such an innocent and charming cartoon, I still remember when the serie came back to TV and rewatching it with a smile. As for Heatcliff it's the same, I also tried to like it but it didn't appeal me (I think I prefer Garfield when it comes to orange cats). If you want to try to give a shot for the two Sonic series I really recommend the SatAM one because it's really a good serie when it comes to storytelling, while the AOSTH you can give it a shot but it's really not that good like many people say because the comedy isn't that good, I still remember rewatching it and it just didn't work out for me anymore (although there are some episodes that I actually like) though it's still a guilty pleasure because of the main villain. Rainbow Brite it's also not from my time but I'll probably give a shot. There was also another DiC cartoon the guy mentioned that was from my time and I remember loving it, which was Captain Zed and the Zee Zone, and I wouldn't mind rewatching it again although I'm not sure if I'll have the same feelings like I used to have back in 1998. Oh no, I did, I did noticed that! That's what made me pissed because with the original there was always that moment when I was wishing desperately for an episode where Gadget would caught her and Brain sneaking around and what reaction he would have about it, and this reboot just took that away. EXACTLY!!! They just took away that charm, because like you said, both want to protect each other, Gadget because he doesn't want anything arming his niece, and Penny wanted Gadget out of trouble just so she doesn't lose him, and this reboot just took that away. Oh yes, I can agree with that since she has a lot of interest in science as well, but I also think if Penny would work for the police she would probably work better as those police hackers (like Garcia from Criminal Minds) since she's good with that as well. And yes, I also think it's ok if she and Gadget would work together, just… not the way how the reboot portrayed it. I only found out about the fanfictions when I first started to talk with some people here in the forum, especially GadgetCopter who introduced me to the fanfictions "Good Heart" and "A Mind of his Own", and since then I started to read other around DA. Indeed. If none of us fans ever get the copyrights then at least the next owner should hear us. The problem is is that there aren't many people out there who likes the series, I still remember watching the stream on Twitch, which was passing the first season episodes (Andy Heyward was even on the chat), but most people were talking badly about it, some of them were even complaining they wanted to watch Pokémon instead. I guess people in the nowadays are more focused on series with good storytelling or violence. Why thank you! Glad you like them!

Oh yes indeed, I do agree with you with everything on here! you know, just to point that out on Brain's re-design, his eyes do give that away.
When I first saw Quimby with glasses, I'm so sorry, I just had to laugh! I guess all of those unfortunate times where he got blown up really did caught up with him. however, did they made him shorter? I don't know if it's me, but does he looks a lot shorter in 2015 than the original?
You know, as a huge Garfield fan since both IG and Garfield were the first 2 cartoons I've ever watched, I tried my best to get into Heatcliff. even though, I still watched it when there was nothing else on. but at least I'm not the only one who feels this way. As for SatAM, I've read and watched a lot of good reviews on it. I'm just hoping that somewhere in the deep ends of youtube somebody uploaded them. I've never seen Captain Zed and the Zee Zone, now it makes me want to find it and see what it's like.
yes Indeed! I honestly think that the moral story of the original premise itself is "it doesn't matter how many flaws the person you love has, always stick together!" and on the fact that the 2015 reboot re wrote that premise, that 'charm and the 'thrill' of a small family looking after each other is gone.
you know that would've been one most watched episode if Gadget ever caught Penny and Brain sneaking around and having the truth come out. just think about the drama it would cause between Gadget, Penny and Brain; and on the fact that Gadget had to deal with the horrifying truth. but also, it would come to a part where they all sort things out and agreed to work together to catch Dr. Claw... that probably would be best season finale (or TV movie) this series would've ever seen. (do you agree )... But, sadly... thanks to the 2015 reboot, it did took that special charm away and made it to the opposite effect. *sigh* but there always will be fan fiction.
I remember I did read "Good Heart" and thought it was fantastic! but I haven't read "A Mind of his Own" so that'll be on my list.
Yeah you are right, there not so many fans out there because it's not really as popular like it once was back in the 80's and 90's. for the longest time being in this fandom, I've noticed that we are a small group. sometimes I think it's a good thing because big ones could turn ugly, but it depends on what type of fandom it is. and there are a lot of people who never cared for this series ether, but it's all about taste I guess... growing up, my friends used to criticize this cartoon all the time because they knew I loved it.. but it never changed my mind only because I never really copied anybody else on what cartoon/tv shows they liked. lol!
Anyways, I've heard about Twitch steaming IG, (sadly my laptop hates that site.) but, that is really a shame how that turned out! and on the fact that one of the creators were on the chat, some people have no respect!
You're welcome! ^_^ I'm looking forward to read more.
