When I first saw Quimby with glasses, I'm so sorry, I just had to laugh! I guess all of those unfortunate times where he got blown up really did caught up with him. however, did they made him shorter? I don't know if it's me, but does he looks a lot shorter in 2015 than the original? I don't think so. He wasn't that tall in the original so I think his size is just the same as before. You know, as a huge Garfield fan since both IG and Garfield were the first 2 cartoons I've ever watched, I tried my best to get into Heatcliff. even though, I still watched it when there was nothing else on. but at least I'm not the only one who feels this way. As for SatAM, I've read and watched a lot of good reviews on it. I'm just hoping that somewhere in the deep ends of youtube somebody uploaded them. I've never seen Captain Zed and the Zee Zone, now it makes me want to find it and see what it's like. ;) I think the SatAM series is still around youtube, unless they got taken down for copyrights. yes Indeed! ;) I honestly think that the moral story of the original premise itself is "it doesn't matter how many flaws the person you love has, always stick together!" and on the fact that the 2015 reboot re wrote that premise, that 'charm and the 'thrill' of a small family looking after each other is gone.
Exactly, which is really a shame. They just focused on the relationship between two "dumb" teenagers and really not on the moral that the original had, which is still a good moral that still should be shown to younger and older audiences. Because seriously, what do people learn from violent cartoons? The only thing they teach is that screaming and punching solves everything. But I won't lie, there are some violent cartoons that at least has some good story telling *COUGHNarutoCOUGH*. you know that would've been one most watched episode if Gadget ever caught Penny and Brain sneaking around and having the truth come out. just think about the drama it would cause between Gadget, Penny and Brain; and on the fact that Gadget had to deal with the horrifying truth. but also, it would come to a part where they all sort things out and agreed to work together to catch Dr. Claw... that probably would be best season finale (or TV movie) this series would've ever seen. (do you agree ;) )... But, sadly... thanks to the 2015 reboot, it did took that special charm away and made it to the opposite effect. *sigh* but there always will be fan fiction. ;) Indeed, I think the same. Yeah you are right, there not so many fans out there because it's not really as popular like it once was back in the 80's and 90's. for the longest time being in this fandom, I've noticed that we are a small group. sometimes I think it's a good thing because big ones could turn ugly, but it depends on what type of fandom it is. and there are a lot of people who never cared for this series ether, but it's all about taste I guess... growing up, my friends used to criticize this cartoon all the time because they knew I loved it.. but it never changed my mind only because I never really copied anybody else on what cartoon/tv shows they liked. lol!
I agree. It's probably better that this fanbase is small and not big like others, otherwise it could become out of control when it comes to respect everyone opinions. For example for what I heard the Steven Universe fanbase got that problem that even a fan who was doing fanart of the show got harassed by other fans because she didn't draw the characters equally to the serie, and she unfortunately didn't pass well after that, and even one of the people who works on the animation of the serie, Ian JQ, had to give a moral to them because what they did to her was wrong although he just got with negatives comments. It was a mess. Not to mention that there are some fans who only like the series because of Penny getting gagged all the time, boy, you even find disturbing fanart on DA because of that. It's awkwardly disgusting.Anyways, I've heard about Twitch steaming IG, (sadly my laptop hates that site.) but, that is really a shame how that turned out! and on the fact that one of the creators were on the chat, some people have no respect! :(
Indeed. However there were people who still asked him questions about the series, some of them were actually really good questions. And some others were enjoying rewatching the series again. But yeah, there were moments were the chat was a mess.

But yeah, there were moments were the chat was a mess. Ah ok, so it was me. lol! but again, you are right! he does look a little dorky with those glasses. lol!
And you are right about how much 2015 ditched the moral of the original... it seemed like it was mainly about 2 teenagers fighting each other in every episode, that's pretty much it. (boy, I think I'm going to piss off some shippers here) however, it felt like it was never ending. even though, the shippers wanted to see if they ended up being together and "live happily ever after"... but, one thing I'm trying to figure out is what is the moral story behind it? try to chase into a relationship with the enemy? or trying to change the enemy into a good guy and wanting join them? *scratches head* I don't know, I think I'm just nitpicking on it. So I'll just stop right there because I do have respect for the shippers. but you are right about how violent cartoons and what do people get from them? I know the original was pretty violent it's self, however it was always part of the old fashioned slapstick comedy where it was cringy enough.
But I personally think that adding a "love interest" really dumbed it down and again, out of place... I felt the same way when I first saw the 1999 film when Gadget had an "love interest" with the scientist, Brenda and it he ended up being with her in the end of the plot. *sigh* Anyways, I don't know if anybody would agrees with me, but I always felt that a "love interest" does not belong in Inspector Gadget only because the original never had one; besides Gadget has the hots for a women MAD agent. don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with adding a "love interest" plot, a lot of them in other series become very good and sweet only because very good writing was involved. but it felt like it didn't fit well with the 2015 series at all... it just made it more into a "meh" than interesting. (but again, my opinion... please don't take my word on it. )
Yeah, I've been into big fandoms too where it came to a point where it became an huge augment war on some websites. I used to love to sit and read everybody's comments and see who wins. lol! but yeah, I personally think each fandom will have it's bad apples who try to force their point of view and forget respect. at least this one is small enough where it's laid back... that's one of the reasons why I stayed with it all of these years.
And as for the disturbing fanart of Penny, I do agree with you there, I could never understand the whole thing behind that "fetish". but on the fact she is underage is what gets me thinking... why? in the original series, it was another old fashioned plot to get her captured than set free from Brain. but for a fandom only for that? that I could never understand... I do admit, some DA fanart can interesting because some of them make fun of it. however, the rest is just not my cup of tea. I do have a 18+ folder in the IG DA group that's been there before I was added in. however, at least it is separated from everything else on there and I don't dare to add anything from it to my "featured" list because of that reason.
That's very cool that there were a lot of fans on there, I wish i knew about this because I would love to read all of those conversations on the chat and learn more about what Andy Heyward had to say.

Oh no no no, when I mentioned the word "violence" I wasn't talking about the IG series. I was talking about animation in general, like Dragon Ball, Naruto, etc. But yeah, the violence used in the IG series was indeed a part of the old fashioned slapstick comedy like Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes, but that kind of violence is not that exaggerated since it's mostly for comedy purpose, unlike the violence used on Dragoon Ball. And yes, the 2015 reboot didn't have any moral when it comes to that so I don't know why the new fans find the shipping interesting when there's nothing to offer or even to teach anything (and don't worry, you won't find those shippers around here on the forum, most of us here don't like/hate it ). As for the love interest part I don't mind either, but like you said it doesn't really work on this franchise because the original didn't have that. Not to mention that using that would probably make the loose to the charm the series offered about the small family love so probably giving a love interest for Gadget and/or Penny wouldn't probably work well, so I totally agree with. Indeed. I won't lie, I even thought this series didn't have a fanbase until I started my account on DA. I was actually happy to know I wasn't the only one who liked the franchise, it was an huge surprise. Neither can I. Although there are some who are actually well drawn I just can't help to find most of them disturbingly disgusting, and most of the time it makes me furious when someone fav some of my IG fanarts, especially the Penny ones, and then get with their Favorites fulled of women all gagged or showing their feet or huge boobies, it's just ridiculous (the only fetishness I can tolerate a little is the GTS fanart since I have a fetish side for it because of Disney's Alice in Wonderland can't help it). Well I wouldn't call them exactly fans, I think they were just those nonfans or just people who just like the series because when it came to fans I only caught a few who said were fans. But yeah, it was nice. I only didn't ask anything because I don't have an account so it was kind of a shame not being able to do it, but asides of that it was nice watching the series and reading the comments over the chat.

Ah ok, sorry that I miss understood on the first part. but, yes in general there are quite a few series out there are very violent, even though DBZ is awesome! but I will always prefer the good ol slapstick. lol! anyways, since you pointed that out... when I came back to Netflix in the middle of last year, I wanted to read the comments of the 2015 series (before Netflix took them down) and I did read some of the viewers asking what ever happened to the all explosives and bombs? I'm not really sure for what they really meant because I think there were some presented in the 2015 series, including the exploding "hologram" messages. (meh...) so I wondered if it was toned down a notch and made it more "comical" where some of the viewers noticed the difference. plus, I do want to add that a lot of the viewers on Netflix were upset to see Gadget in a thong. (I reacted the same way too, but I was mostly pissed.) but other than that, they did called is a "comedy" but I personally think Gadget in a thong was little bit too much.
yes indeed, when I was finally hooked on on the internet in early 2002, IG was the first thing I looked for on "overtune" search engine. that's how I found the old IG.net forum site, there were a lot of people on it! mostly from the UK, so I was happy I wasn't the only one who loved the series! and once it was shut down about a year later, everybody pretty much stayed on DA and fanfiction.net. kinda sad where you don't see that much on facebook though unless it's in a "nostalgia" group.
yeah, I feel the same way, even though I've been in the depth of the abyss on DA where I find the most disturbing stuff in fanart where I'm surprised that DA would allow it. but again, they consider it as art. *sigh* same thing with tumblr, even though they re changed their policy where no NSFW is allowed on the site. even though I never minded it, but as long it's not in the search tag, they're fine...
that's awesome though, glad that you experienced that! hopefully next time, we all will have a chance.

I only get to watch this series when I am at my sisters house. I haven't heard any updates about the series in awhile.

It took me a while to read through this, so it's a little hard for me to sum up a response. I'm not shedding a tear over the loss of the show and also do hope DXH Media learned a lesson from how people took to it. ... Hopefully not the Talenny thing. For how it's almost standardized about the length of cartoons in regards to binge watching. ... I binge watch stuff while I'm working away on my comics. Still prefer normal 22 minute episodes though for cartoons. As for how cartoons have been treated in the last few decades. That I'd like to add in on more. Yes, the 80's had a number of toy driven shows. But as also pointed out there were still other cartoons that came out at the same time. Weird being a life long MLP fan I have mixed feelings about the Classic series. If you notice though most of the 90's broke away from the toy commercial type only for it to return in the 00's at what felt to me at great speed. I'm enjoying the new Ducktales so far and would also point out it's not just the comics that series touches on. It's the Disney Afternoon in general it's dipping into as well. I think it's been very much designed for the young and old to enjoy. The company knows the kid's parents are going to tune in too and wants to throw them a bone. In regards to other remakes I have no polite opinion of Teen Titans Go. I've barely seen the PowerPuff Girls remake, so I can't speak up on that one. I enjoy the earlier Ben 10 *canon ( *bunch of connected series ). Although because of hearing awful reviews, I'm not giving the remake a chance. In regards to She-Ra, I knew of it back in the day and oddly enough never gave it a chance. However I really enjoy the new version and I'll add the new Voltron into that comment as well. As to what animation well the noticeable crap of it anyway is. I gave my thoughts on that many years back on DA. Bet money no kid knows who the better drawn bunnies are without using Google. I never gave it a thought before now but fully get what you guys are saying about the earlier versions of Penny. Knowing now how she can be viewed in the sense of a role model. DHX shame on you! About IG movies through. Here is a web surfing challenge to whoever would like to give it a go. The other day I read again that old variety article which talked about the unused Gadget-Girl series. I can't have been the only one to give this detail a surprised reaction. DiC was thinking about making a movie for Inspector Gadget back in 1992. Are there any early script drafts out there which were made much prior to Disney taking ownership in the late 90's? I tried to look this up and came up empty handed. For how the CGI looked for the 2015 series, that never bothered me except I feel a little more effort could have been given. At least it wasn't awful like what was done for Biggest Caper. Also I dug this up in researching years ago. The original Gadgetmobile is said to have been modeled from the 1983 Toyota Supra. As for fan fictions ... *puts bag over head in shame* I know I'm behind in reading others' works. On note to other fan fiction being read ... I just made myself depressed.

Well said, Systemcat! (Btw, great artwork!)
hmmm, this is news to me, sounds like a challenge for me to dig! However, as far as my understanding the reason behind the 1999 film only because Disney bought ABC who already owned DiC at that time. (1993-1995) and Disney decided to use DiC's only original franchise to cash in on.... but that would've been interesting if an IG movie was in the works before Disney stepped in. it just makes me wonder how different it would've been... I did posted the history about DiC entertainment if you are interested... just to warn you it's very long, but it has a lot of information.
I know I'm behind too, but don't feel bad. *hugs*

Sorry to be posting so late in this thread, I only just joined the forums today. I can't say I'm sorry the series has ended. I watched several episodes and I tried to like it, I really did, but it's just not for me. Gadget's become so thick and, for me at least, unlikeable. Not to mention it felt more like I was watching 'The Penny & Talon Show'. I can't get behind the Talenny ship at all and for the sake of laziness I'll just copy/paste my other thoughts on Gadget from my tumblr:
So I think one of the issues I have with the reboot is that Gadget (besides having been made as thick as a brick) seems less…human? I guess? I mean he certainly comes across as more machine than man. Like:
1. Getting powered down along with the rest of HQ’s computers and stuff, and then rebooted by Brain in the first two episodes.
2. Getting hacked/controlled remotely via nanobots in ‘Cough due to Claw’.
3. Getting remotely rebooted twice by Penny in ‘She Got Dangerous Game‘.
4. The distinctly non-human way he responded to the doughnuts in ‘A Hole in One’.
Anywho, those are my thoughts and I mean no disrespect to the people who enjoyed the show (each to their own and all). It's so nice to have somewhere to actually voice this stuff!

They really messed up with Gadget's personality and made him less human which for me and probably most fans around here made us shocked. I didn't mind the design, after all it was done by a different artist, not to mention the CGI was a bit better than that other CGI movie, BLEH!!! Trust me, although me and the others around the forum didn't enjoy much this reboot we never intended to disrespect the fans of it as well. The only down side is that these "fans" only liked this reboot mostly for the no-sense romance between Penny and Talon and if someone says it didn't respect the original series they'll always disagree with you and end up saying that the original is boring without even giving a chance to watch it.

(even though a lot of fans get confused between the difference of them two when it comes to Gadget.) however, he seems to be more 'human' in the original series, even had a handful of episodes where was able to use a bit of his brain... sometimes I wonder why the reboot never took an advantage of that.

The more people who voice their thoughts, the better the thread is for diversity of opinions . Also yeah, I tried to like the series but it just fell short. At least the final season seemed to downplay the shipping throw on to Penny & Talon. But still they came across as the main focus even through they shouldn't have. I wonder if any writers who worked on the show ever realized the faults they were creating in an attempt to please it's target young fan base, might back fire.
