It's hard to believe that it was 20 years ago the movie came out in theaters! Despite for not caring too much about the film, but this day holds a very special memory for me when I saw it in theaters with my family. However, My family didn't care for it eather, but it did stir up a nice long conversation about the cartoon on the way home. Now, I'm just wondering, did you guys see the movie in theaters when it first came out? Or did you see it when it came out on DVD? And Did you guys like it?

I only saw it when it was on TV, at the time our Portuguese channels used to pass a lot of movies.
At first, because I was a fan of the original series, I actually liked it, but after some years passed and after watching a review from a critic about the movie I kind of realized how it had a lot of issues which I already mention in other threads. Still this movie is a sort of guilty pleasure to me, when I watch it I still like it but at the same time I still complain where they could have done better. But when it comes respecting the series I personally prefer the sequel even if it still has some issues.

I personally haven't seen the sequel, but I've heard a lot about it in the old IG.net forum and other places where there were mix reviews of it. One day a couple of years ago when I came home from work, I saw my dad watching it on Netflix only because he was recording the sound from it. (He used to make videos with movie soundtracks) and remember him telling me that the movie was pretty stupid... but I haven't seen it, so I'm not making my judgement on it. Lol But at least the sequel was close to the oringnal, not as far as the first movie. Maybe one day I'll sit and watch it and see what it's like, even though I'll still think Gadget is Harry from 3rd Rock from the sun. Lol!

All I'm going to say is that IG 1999 doesn't get enough love the movie to me was brilliant yes it has its flaws but what movie doesn't I like how it was not to much like the cartoon don't get me wrong I LOVE THE CARTOONS but sometimes you have to take a risk just look at the dark knight trilogy that's all I'm saying!

Very true, I always thought that the writers wanted to take a different turn on it including Gadget's organs, instead of a banana peel, it was an explosion, which makes a lot of sense on what what was needed to put him back together. I dont know if you saw one of my threads here on the forum, But I have an old Inspector Gadget book in Spanish that was written in 1987 which shows a tiny bit of Gadget's surgery. I think Disney did take note on what went on in the operating room and Gadget's long recovery.

I did see this in theatres; I saw it when one of our local cinemas had a screening for only £1 admission, after its normal run had finished. I'm guessing this would have been Spring or early Summer of 2000, as it was a Christmas 1999 release in the UK. The cinema was an Odeon which had opened in the early 70s, and was sold to a less prestigious exhibitor (Hollywood Cinemas) a year later. The theatre sadly closed two years ago. I can't remember if I had high expectations for the movie or not, but I was certainly aware it had not been reviewed well. Perhaps with that in mind, I did enjoy the film. I'm not really a ranking guy, but I guess I'd have given it a 7/10. I remember being excited to see a Yahoo billboard in the film as that was our Internet (a new, novel thing!) homepage at the time, and I hadn't learned to by cynical about product placement yet A few years later, when VHS was starting to die out, I bought the VHS at a tabletop stock sale at the library. (I had seen the DTV sequel by this point incidentally) My opinion of it dropped quite a bit, the gaps from the 40 minutes or so that had been cut out of the film before release were really quite noticeable, and I think I only watched the VHS the once. About ten years after that a friend got me a double-pack of the two movies for my birthday. I've watched it a couple of times, and find it to be somewhat enjoyable for all its flaws. I guess I would say these days it's a generous 6/10 for me.
