It's been about 4 years since we heard the rumor about Disney making an Inspector Gadget movie reboot and we haven't heard anything ever since, Until today somebody on one of my Facebook groups posted a recent article about it and it seems like it's still in the air, but it might be still waiting for the green light. Here is th he article, its very vague. But it makes me wonder how much Disney really cares for them to try again on this franchise. thedisinsider.com/2019/10/04/new-live-action-inspector-gadget-film-in-the-works-at-disney/

I wondered if you were going to say something in the forum about this. I saw your comment on the FB post. I did notice when reading the article, Disney really failed to relay the '99 movie beyond saying box office gross, duded. The person did give a mildly ok nutshell summary of the Classic series. But for revealing facts about this coming movie? I got to see the live action Aladdin and felt so so about it. Like nice pop-corn flick, but I haven't felt too tempted to buy it. But even if a pop-corn piece, it wasn't bad. So hopefully this re-make is like wise. I know Disney is doing re-makes into over kill in a sad way, but they failed the first time. Maybe this will be different.

And on the fact that DHX owns the franchise now, so they might tie in with the 2015 series since they threw in more changes to it for this generation... but you'll never know. Even though I was never too crazy about the 1999 movie, I have mixed feelings about the idea. But its mostly for nostelgia if you think about it. Nostelgia = Money

I was yesterday talking about this with a friend on facebook who also shared me the news. To be honest I'm not sure if this will ever work. I saw the new Aladdin movie and although I don't consider it bad it doesn't beat the original animated one, but I'm sure if the producers do the right searches of the original 80's series I'm sure something interesting might come up from this. But according to the article my friend shared me it pointed that they also want to focus on Penny which kind of worries me 'cause we already know the 2015 series went that way and it ended up the way it is unfortunately, unless of course they want to show us more of her backside story, that would be indeed interesting when it comes to that. Sincerely I think if they do something similar to the movie sequel without the fails it had I'm sure the movie might turn out alright. Of course if this end up on cinemas I prefer to save my money instead of taking a risk and ended up disappointed (that happened to me with Moana), unless someone invites me, that would be different. I'll just cross my fingers. By the way here's the article my friend shared to me in case you'd like to give a check: screenrant.com/inspector-gadget-live-action-movie-reboot-disney/?utm_content=buffere5a68&utm_medium=Social-Distribution&utm_source=SR-FB-P&utm_campaign=SR-FB-P&fbclid=IwAR22GwcF4o2Dqi_Hta5tftk1KFphHr9YpiZzij92VS78UoPZ4LnX3_zKeMI

I just shared it on the facebook group, even though people on there are not too thrilled about the idea about an another IG movie. As for Disney... just to be honest, I was never really a Disney fan. even when I was a kid who grew up with the animated movies, they never really hold anything special to me just to see them rebooted in live action 20+ years later with CGI. I once saw Beauty and the Beast a couple of years ago with my sister and it became a "meh" to me... it wasn't as great as the original (Which I've seen in theaters back in 1991) but it wasn't as bad ether... just a bit different, but will never hold a candle on how good the original was compared to the reboot.
However, you would've think that Disney would've learned their lesson 20 years ago when they released the live action Inspector Gadget and Mr. Magoo? The one person I've spoken with on the facebook group did had a point about how much money IG made in the box office that summer which it did pretty well since the original 1983 series was still in syndication at that time, even though they made the movie 13 years right after it series was canceled. But the series was still going strong on Nickelodeon and had marathons of it on that month when the movie was released... So a lot of people were still familiar with it, even though it was mainly aimed for 2 generations. (80's and 90's kids)
As for the article, I do see on why they want Penny to be mostly in the spot light for the reboot. I know in the 1999 movie, she was tossed into the side which she wasn't supposed to and have Gadget more competent where it seemed that he didn't need Penny at all which was the TOTAL OPPOSITE of the original series... And Disney added the unnecessary "love interest" for Gadget, but that makes me very leary about Penny if they decide to put her on the spotlight which is what DHX did to her in the 2015 reboot. *sigh* if you look at the original premise of Inspector Gadget, it's all about "family" protecting each other, not chasing after "boys and girls" which made the it a TOTAL MESS!!! I honestly think it would be more interesting if they toss out the boyfriend/girlfriend cliche and give every character a very good background story and gives us a reason why both uncle, niece and dog are a very close family. (and also why Dr. Claw is so desperate to kill or "eliminate" them) It was never confirmed in the original series on why they ended up with each other, but from good writing, you can see the bond of each character.
Meanwhile, If this ever comes to pass, I'll just read the reviews before I make the discussion to go see it. it's very sad on how Disney is becoming now days, they need to bring up new ideas for this generation to remember instead of bring up old ideas from the last few generations and recycle them into something that they are not.

Lets just hope they don't throw in Talon when adding more to Penny's character for the movie. With her having a focus, frankly the family route on her with Gadget, is what I'd rather see. Also because of what you said about the Classic series in syndication. It still is. I don't know about else where, but a station in the Houston area named Qubo, is nightly airing marathons of it. Also, yeah I'm with you on reading reviews before watching it when it comes out.

I can understand them. Neither do I think this works as a live action, it probably does work better as an animated movie, but that just me. For example the Last Case movie is not actually a bad, the down side of it it's that they decided to keep with the Gadgetmobile talking and focused more on the partnership between it and Gadget. I don't blame you. You don't need to be a fan of Disney. I only am because if it wasn't for their animated movies, especially Fantasia which is my personal favorite, I probably wouldn't want to become an illustrator myself. But I do see your point of view, it is indeed sad that the animated movies are receiving such treatment with these reboots because of what you also pointed out, nostalgia equals money and that's what the company is looking forward in the nowadays, it's really sad and disappointing. But there are some live action remake movies I don't dislike, maybe because the animated ones didn't fond to me too much. But the Beauty and Beast one, although I liked some touches they gave, I really really detested Emma Watson play as Belle, I still ratter watch the original one, which is my second favorite Disney movie. That's interesting. And it's kind of normal that it aimed more to those 2 generations since kids who were born on the late 90's and early 2000's were more into anime, but that's my point of view, I'm not saying that people who were born on that time period didn't like this serie. Yeah, I forgot to point that, about that the live action didn't focus on her as much as she deserved. And yes, it's like you say, the series focused more on the family bond more than anything. Sorry if I upset you with my opinion. Is just that I'm really scared with what they mean on trying to focus on Penny, and the reason for that is because one thing that I liked on the live action was the fact that they didn't do Gadget as a total idiot, even the original series showed him as a competent character in certain episodes, but since the other franchises decided to make him too stupid, although the Gadgetinis series respected a little of that on two episodes (the island water one and the ghost one), I'm sort of scared how he will turn out in this new live action. I don't want another stupid Gadget, I want the original Gadget, the one who even he makes mistakes he slowly becomes competent. That's why I think if they go to something similar to the 1999 movie sequel this new one might work but with less love interest. And exactly, that's what I want to see as well, the backside story of the main characters since it was never explained, and like you said and well, as long it has good writing. I agree, maybe I'll do the same. And yes, Disney is really just going down with the way they're going forward. But according to an article I read, actually it was gizmo2015 who shared it on facebook, said they are thinking on returning to hand drawn animation again, though I don't know if this is also fake news. Here's the article in case you're interested: insidethemagic.net/2019/10/disney-hand-drawn-animation-ro1/?utm_content=bufferf80e5&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer&fbclid=IwAR0nXPCNugIpwxKk6aVhuJhkSG1peo7wBvZYvnZlDs6CXsPUAmGd1FwU1Kw

I bet it's awhile before we hear updates on the cast yeah, I agree. maybe they will have a lot better cast than the last one and maybe they will pick someone that might look a bit like Gadget (somebody with a thin face) and pick a blonde girl for Penny. I can understand them. Neither do I think this works as a live action, it probably does work better as an animated movie, but that just me. For example the Last Case movie is not actually a bad, the down side of it it's that they decided to keep with the Gadgetmobile talking and focused more on the partnership between it and Gadget. Yeah, I remember when it was aired on Nickelodeon at that time back somewhere in the early 2000's. I guess since the movie and the 2nd movie was still fresh in everybody's minds, so I think that's why they kept it in the scrips, even though it didn't last that long... however, that was at time is when DIC broke off ties with Disney, so they only made it for the special, if I'm not mistaking. (correct me if I'm wrong ) I don't blame you. You don't need to be a fan of Disney. I only am because if it wasn't for their animated movies, especially Fantasia which is my personal favorite, I probably wouldn't want to become an illustrator myself. But the Beauty and Beast one, although I liked some touches they gave, I really really detested Emma Watson play as Belle, I still ratter watch the original one, which is my second favorite Disney movie. Fantasia is a masterpiece! even though I'm not much of a Disney fan, there are quite a few animated movies I still enjoy watching as an adult like Snow White and The Sword in the Stone, and also including some of their live action classic movies from the 60's to the 80's which I hope they don't reboot some of them. as for the live action Beauty and the Beast, I do agree with you about Emma Watson being as Belle, she is such a great actress, but she didn't fit the character well as we hoped.... kinda reminds me of Matthew Broderick, he was a good actor in some roles, but he didn't fit the character of Gadget ether.
That's interesting. And it's kind of normal that it aimed more to those 2 generations since kids who were born on the late 90's and early 2000's were more into anime, but that's my point of view, I'm not saying that people who were born on that time period didn't like this serie. That is very true! and it's at that time when Toonami was going very strong on Cartoon Network and Fox kids had Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh, so it was actually the younger generation at that time moved on to the anime trend. but some did knew what IG was, so that is a plus. the original series was moved from Nickelodeon to Fox Family in 2000 to 2001 until Disney bought the channel and took it off. So at least some of the younger generation did have the chance to watch it until it disappeared for awhile. And exactly, that's what I want to see as well, the backside story of the main characters since it was never explained, and like you said and well, as long it has good writing. Don't worry, nothing upset me. (I respect your opinion ) I'm very nervous about Penny too since she was the brains and Gadget's backbone in the original series which made it very interesting, I'm hoping they would see that in the upcoming movie where Gadget, Penny and Brain needed each other and they shouldn't add more or less to it for it to make it work right. As for Gadget, many think he is stupid and a bumbling idiot in the original series, but he was incompetent and slow... but also you can tell that he was very smart and takes action very quickly when needed. In a TV trope, he is considered a " Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass".
"Inspector Gadget, of all people, occasionally demonstrated this. Uusually he was a total joke who always chased after the wrong clue while his preteen niece and her dog captured the criminal behind his back, but when Penny and Brain were in real danger from Dr. Claw's traps in one or two episodes, the normally Too Dumb to Live Inspector would skilfully use his gadgets to save them." I do agree with you with not wanting another stupid Gadget which is too unsettling to watch, I just hope they give him another chance where he has character development instead of tearing him down each time they bring him back into the spotlight. I've seen this on a facebook group and it seems real. it's been talked about for quite some time and I'm waiting for more news about it. it'll be interesting to see what fresh new ideas and push back the reboot ideas a bit.

Greetings. Im new here. I would love for there to be a more edgy darker IG reboot perhaps showcased under an "R" rating. I would also live to see an anime aling the same lines.

Welcome to the forum, helloprolix . an edgy and dark reboot will be quite fitting for this franchise, if you think about it, the premise of the original series was pretty dark with light hearted tone... as for anime, I agree with you making it with anime since the oringnal series was considered half anime (thanks to TMS, AIC, Wang Film Productions and Toei animation (uncredited)).
Edit:
As for a R rated film might be pretty interesting since there is a lot that can be worked with, including a lot of twists... The tv channel SiFi did that with the Banana Splits Show a few months back, they made it from a light hearted show into a dark R rated movie, however I haven't seen it yet, but it had a mix of ratings.

Sorry for only respond to this now. Been very busy with Inktober that I didn't have much time with the internet except for image references search. Hm… for what I recall when an episode of the Gadgetinis series ended they showed the animated logo of Buena Vista so I'm sure Disney was still behind the series and the Last Case movie, but I can't be sure when they broke up with DiC, maybe around 2005-2006 probably? Unfortunately for what I heard Snow White will also have a reboot, and something tells me this new Lady and the Tramp one will not be that good but I don't want to be that negative without watching it first. And apparently Little Mermaid will also have a reboot, they even introduced who will be the actress playing Ariel. But again I prefer to wait to see these reboots once their on the internet and then I'll see if they're good or not. That's good to know. But I still wonder if they enjoyed the series, and the reason why I say this is that most of the time when an old animated series from the 70's, 80's and 90's were aired again most younger audiences would complain that they wanted their favorite animes. This actually happened years back when the original series and other cartoons that I enjoyed when I was younger were aired again on a Portuguese channel back at 2013-2015 (if I'm not wrong) but on Facebook other people were complaining that they wanted Naruto, Dragon Ball, Bleach, etc., which for me was a big let down because the Portuguese channels had to take down those old series just so those audiences could watch those anime because of money money money (must be funny in this rich men's world). Luckily, thanks to some Portuguese fans community were able to record some of the old series, including Gadget, and share the video files on the internet. It's risky due to copyrights, but very worth since most of those series didn't have VHS and DVD releases. Oh thank goodness! I thought that because I got a little carried away with this you probably got kind of angry. That would be interesting them working together although I'm more hyped on watching something like Gadget catching by surprise that Penny was always in his missions solving them on his back and see what would be their reaction, something like Gadget scolding her or something like that which was something that I always something that I wanted to happen in the original series (sorry, I'm just a baaaaaad girl ). Oh, that's a very interesting article! I'm actually glad that Naruto was on the list too. But yeah, I'm really crossing fingers with this new movie. I just hope it doesn't let us fans down on becoming another bad spin off. Oh yes, that would be great on their part!

It's quite alright, I know the month of October was busy for everyone including myself.
You do have a point, I looked into the DiC Entertainment Wiki and Gadgettinies Wiki and it seems like Buena Vista was the Distributor for the series, even though DiC became an independent company in 2000 after buying it back from Disney. (to me, that is very interesting) So, you are right, Disney still had a little part of it. but what gets my a bit confused is why they didn't air Gadget's Last Case on the Disney channel, but on Nickelodeon instead. Another thing too that I question about the Gadgetinies and why it was never shown here in the U.S. ... I guess that would be a mystery, unless somebody out there has more info.
Yeah, I've read a lot of hate about the Lady and the Tramp movie and for my understanding that it's going to be streaming on Disney+, I've looked into the trailer and it seems to be another "meh" for me. a bit of changes, but it's be expected. lol! And I believe both the little mermaid and Snow White reboots might be following too.
that's very cool that they are posting old VHS shows up on the internet, kinda reminds me of all of the IG episodes on youtube, I'm still very surprised that they didn't take all of them down yet since they've been on there for over 5 years, however they did take a lot of the 2015 series off due to copyrights, but not the original. same thing with a lot of recorded VHS videos of Nickelodeon from the mid 90's, they've been up for awhile.
Indeed. hopefully they will make it right this time *sigh*... I'll just have to sit back watch what happens.
