I couldn't help but jokingly think of what systemdog and I talked were about at one point last night while reading this. When the walls were closing in, due to last night's chat which was over the Star Wars universe. "Turn off the trash compactor!" Also due to the use of EMP, you reminded me I need to do a little more fleshing out of something in my own work meant for story five. But don't worry, this is by far likely the most unheard of use of that people have cared to think to write on. This won't I sure step on anyone's toes in their writing.

I look forward to seeing what you do. Actually, the explanation from that thread would pretty much cover what I'm doing here, though not perfectly. Personally, I like there to be a little mystery in what's going on, and using what I call the Velvateen Rabbit theory seemed to be a way of doing it.

I'm guessing that comment crossed over to my review left on FF.net? Also it's use in the fifth story, which I just named yesterday, "Devil's Blood". Gadget's EMP ability isn't meant to be used destructively in that story. If you figure out what it gets used for I'll be surprised.

That doesn't surprise me. Transformers Animated used EMP's non-destructively. It'll be interesting to see where you are going.

This chapter was a nice break from adventure and it felt needed plot-wise. ( Not that I mind at all action and adventure. ) Reading the name Molly, I did wonder briefly if that was coming from GGG, dismissed it, and then got conformation at the end in reading your author notes. Now I'm itching more to see a different character surface because frankly the personality combo between canon & non-canon intrigues me, moron / genius. Plus I remember you saying quite a while back for horror writing which authors influence your work. Which authors influence your pacing & setup? Returning to writing prose the other day got me thinking of who I accredit influence to on me, so given the high quality of your work, I'm curious about this.

Honestly, when I started, it was going to be a more action centered arc, but as a wrote, it turned out more slice of life, so I ran with it. The action arc will be coming in a couple of weeks. I do have plans, but I can't talk to much about them right now. As for my influences, I'd probably have to say the cartoons from the late 90's to the early 2000's, like The Batman, The Spectacular Spider-Man, and Gargoyles. Those cartoons that were kind of serious, but had lots of moments of humor. I see this story as running like a television show, with each arc acting as an episode, so I'd say those shows are what heavily influenced my pacing and setup.

I love that choice voicing from Linc about what he thinks his teacher must think of him.

GadgetMonster has to be pleased as punch right now if she's read the chapter, now that two of her characters are in it. Yes, I'm aware according to her, she doesn't solely own Prince. I however am slightly worried about the perception of something you aren't aware of. I'll send you a PM about that. I understand this and however might be reading into it wrong by a little. Rat being a grunt. True here that is, but and I could be mistaken on this. Wasn't he once one of the villain of the week bad guys? I think it's interesting having two of these type villains teamed up in this sense.

Most of the villains of the week are referred to as grunts (with a couple of exceptions.) Grunts are supplied with tools and Chimera, but are often allowed to do whatever they want, provided they pay their dues to Claw and respond without hesitation to a mission.

Hmm, this is how I write MAD's hierarchy. Job levels highest to lowest: Specialty Skilled: Agents would be ones like Annie, Venom, Finch, and Spectrum. Civil Workers: Those who do jobs like get intelligence, travel means, security enforcer ( as they're called in MAD ), maintenance, food prep ... you get the idea. Grunts: Who work normally with Specialty Skilled or in teams if job demands no service from higher ranked. Animal Helpers & Robot Helpers: I think they're pretty clear at this point. Elite: Different division of Specialty and considered a failed one given end result.

Grunts: Who work normally with Specialty Skilled or in teams if job demands no service from higher ranked. Animal Helpers & Robot Helpers: I think they're pretty clear at this point. Elite: Different division of Specialty and considered a failed one given end result. Ah, I see. My MAD's a bit looser when I comes to specific jobs. There are a lot of Civilian Workers, but they are not going to be touch on a lot. Deboir would be the one I touch on the most. They are placed in positions where they will be able to help MAD, but get there through semi-legitimate means, such as by election or appointment. I basically combine grunt and specialty skilled. All members are trained to act on their own, and to be dangerous in doing so, since they are all ultimately expendable. Now, where they are all referred to as grunts, it's kind of like the military title of private, where there are different tiers to the grunt. For instance, both Rat and an upcoming agent named Rick Boulden (Rick Boulder in the original cartoon) are grunts. However, the new and relatively unarmed Rat is a low level grunt, where as the more hunter oriented Boulden, who has two Chimera to work with, is a mid-ranged grunt. Grunt basically means you don't have anyone beneath you to order around. Officers and lieutenants are the highest level one can realistically hope to reach. They give orders and can opt out of doing the dirty work. Notice that the four mentioned lieutenants have never done a mission, but have done quite a bit of giving orders. Talon is an officer himself, but he likes getting his hands dirty, so he acts as an assassin and performs some missions as well.
